Primary School Library: A date with Destiny

Parents were introduced to “Destiny”, the new online library system at a coffee morning in the Primary School Library at St Andrews International School Bangkok and are encouraged to “Get children excited about reading”.

Parents’ Welcome Coffee Morning

We were pleased to welcome 25 parents to the Library on Monday morning to meet the staff and learn how to use the library systems to help them choose and  find books for their children. After a warm welcome and a quick explanation, everyone was invited to ask questions and practice their newly learned skills to source and find fiction and non-fiction books both in the online catalogue and  from the shelves. Our thanks to everyone who came along and we hope you found it helpful. We will be following up on your comments and suggestions and if you need help with setting up a Family account or accessing the Destiny system please pop in and see us any time. Here are a few photos from the event:

Books of the Week

Look out for our ‘Books of the Week’, which are displayed on the library counter as you enter, and which are always very  popular with the children to borrow:

1,837 Books Already Borrowed this Term

We have lent out a staggering number of books -  1,837 - already this term with 81.6% of those books being borrowed  by our students across all age ranges. That’s amazing but our ongoing job is to try to encourage everyone to borrow regularly and so we will be working on new ways in which we can inspire and encourage borrowing over the coming weeks. If your child isn’t a regular borrower or is perhaps even a reluctant reader please do let us know how we might encourage them better.

Helping your children to enjoy reading is one of the most important things you can do as a parent and is well worth the investment of your time and energy. Children learn reading skills in school, but often they come to associate reading with work and not pleasure. As a result, they can lose their desire to read but it is that desire — their curiosity and interest to read more and varied material — which re-enforces learning and helps them to use their reading skills successfully.

We invite you to join us in “Getting Children Excited about Reading” as we roll out out a range of new events and activities over the coming weeks.
