World Book Week 2019 Wrap-Up

The High School World Book Week 2019 was a big hit! Students, teachers and staff took part in many events and activities all around the school. We are so grateful to all the participants in the library competitions and activities including the Guest Author Visit, Golden Ticket Competition, Tissue Box Challenge, Take-A-Shelfie Contest and Book Character Costume Competition.

On Monday and Tuesday, St Andrews International School Bangkok welcomed a published author, poet, and songwriter, Catherine Napalai Faulder, aka “The Bedroom Poet”, who visited us 2 years ago. She had creative writing workshops with our Y9 students in the library and had an opportunity to present her recently published novel, Consumerland, to Y11 & 12 groups.

In addition, Kinokuniya and Nanmeebooks offered many titles for sale at a special discount to the STA community in front of the library. The resulting proceeds earned the library than THB 20,000 in commission to keep adding to all of our book collections. Thank you again for all your support.

The Simon Lawrence Library is pleased to announce the winners of the library competitions. In the Golden Ticket Competition, many students tried to find the Golden Ticket was hidden from each day’s clues. We had several winners throughout the week. Congratulations to Ari (7i), Pat (8c), Niio (8e) and Ayra (8d) as they were awarded 3 House Points and THB 300 Kinokuniya book vouchers respectively.

In the Tissue Box Challenge, there were more than 30 amazing entries from diverse Year groups so it was really painful for us to choose only one winner. After much reflection, “The Nutcracker” by Yun Jung (9g) won the competition and she was awarded 3 House Points and THB 500 Kinokuniya book vouchers. Please take a careful look at the wonderful details of her drawings on the tissue box.

The winners of the Take-A-Shelfie Contest were Yasmina (11b) and Bell (11h). They were awarded 3 House Points and THB 500 Kinokuniya book vouchers for their creativity.

Thanks to all the participants for their participation and fabulous artwork in all the competitions and activities. We look forward to another fantastic Book Week next year!

Global Library 2019 & Holiday Reads

The Nord Anglia Education Global Library is now promoting “One World One Book 2019”, offering our students an opportunity to develop international perspectives through sharing a common set of texts. This academic year’s One World One Book pieces are “Zen Pencils: Inspirational Quotes for Kids” by Gavin Aung Than and “Rosie Revere, Engineer” by Andrea Beaty. Please log in to Nord Anglia’s Global Campus through Moodle and find more details including videos where the authors introduce their books as well as a lot of activities that help you learn more about the language of comics, failure and perseverance.

Our new arrivals are on display for the upcoming holiday season, so you are highly recommended to pick up some books from the library and enjoy them during the extended break. You can read or check out our ebooks wherever and whenever you go as well. We wish you a wonderful, restful holiday in advance.
