Primary School Music: Brass trio delight STA

Jeffrey Holbrook (trumpet), Michal Evanovsky (French Horn) and Jason Crimi (Trombone) visited the Primary School inspiring our young brass players and sharing some of their experience and wisdom on breathing, posture and sound techniques.

Brass Trio Visitors from Juilliard

We were thrilled to welcome 3 incredible musicians into school on Thursday: Jeffrey Holbrook (trumpet), Michal Evanovsky (French Horn) and Jason Crimi (Trombone).

Throughout the course of their visit they inspired our young brass players from years 5 and 6 and shared some of their experience and wisdom on breathing, posture and sound techniques. The children in Years 1-4 also had some sessions with the brass players, learning about the different sounds the different instruments can make. Jason, Jeff and Michal demonstrated how putting a mute in the end of their instruments, or even their hand can totally change the timbre of the sound. The players also told the children a lovely story about how a mouse wanted to sound like his elephant friend using a trumpet to help him!

We finished the day with a wonderful concert of brass trio music attended by STA band musicians, parents and teachers. Our visitors also joined in with STA Jazz band to perform “It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got That Swing. A fun, collaborative way to end a fantastic day of inspiring music.
