It seems that holidays fly by just as quickly as a busy school term, and for a couple of weeks already, teachers have been busily preparing for the start of the new school year. We have welcomed a few new families to fill up most of our last remaining places, and all new teachers arrived early for training, to get to know each other and settle into accommodation.

We have a number of support staff joining us, whom you will meet in due course, and pictured here are some key members of staff you might meet this week.

Ms Becca joins us in FS1, working alongside Ms Meg, Ms Anna will be part of the Y1 Team, Ms Verity joins the Primary Senior Leadership Team with responsibility for Special Educational Needs and Inclusion, Ms Emma Stewart will be working as part of the Learning Support Team, and last, but certainly not least, is Ms Lydia. Ms Lydia was part of the KS1 Team for much of last term and will be taking over Year 2R until Ms Maria returns from Maternity leave.

A reminder that all children need to have a hat and a water bottle to have access to all of the play spaces.  A hat can be a school hat or a favourite one that is easy to recognise.

Everything your child brings to school should have their name and class written clearly  on it.

Workshop Sessions for New Parents

For parents new to school, and to those who need a refresher after the long break, there will be Training for Parents on both Moodle and SeeSaw, our virtual learning environments, coming up soon.

These will take place on Wednesday 28th August and Friday 30th August at 8 am in the Drama Studio.

Bug Club is an online, whole-school reading programme that helps transform children into lifelong readers. Mrs Leanne- our literacy coordinator, will lead you through how to help your child use the platform and increase their love of reading.

Meet the Year Group and Meet the Teacher

On Friday last week, over 200 parents of our youngest students came into school to meet the teachers find out more about the routines. This familiarity helps to remove some of the anxiety that young children feel when making big transitions.

In Week 2, Y2 Parents will have the opportunity to attend some information sessions called Meet the Year Group. In these, you will find out more about the curriculum in your child’s new year group.

This session will begin with a presentation from Mr Paul in the Sports Hall. The first session on Tuesday 27th August is for parents of children in Years 2-4 and starts at 4 pm. We arrange sessions in such as way that parents with 2 children will be able to meet the teachers in both year groups.

NB - If you have children in Y5 & Y6, your meetings will be on Thursday 29th August, 4pm in the Sports Hall.

FS3 Phonics Meeting

Also in Week 2, Wednesday 28th August at 3pm there will be a meeting for FS3 Parents who would like to find out more about the way we teach phonics and how to support your children at home. More detail will be sent to you by the FS3 Team in due course.

In Week 3, week beginning 2nd September, there will be some pop-in sessions for parents called Meet the Teacher. This is an opportunity for you as parents to introduce yourselves to your child’s teacher and to share anything that you feel is relevant in ensuring your child has a fantastic year at St Andrews. These 10 minute drop-ins will run from Monday to Thursday from 2.45 pm - 3.45 pm.
