Foundation Stage & Key Stage 1: Transitions

Everyone was very impressed with how quickly the children settled into their new environments. Our youngest learners began their STA experience with home visits to build relationships with their teachers in the familiar environment of home.

If you were around school last week I am sure you would have been impressed by the way in which the children were coping with all of the new environments and people.  A big thank you should go to the teachers and ‘behind the scenes’ teams for the preparation, but also to families for the way you prepared the children for the first week back.

A great example of St Andrews International School Bangkok families and teachers working together to ensure a smooth start, was the initiative of Home Visits that was offered to everyone starting the FS1 this term.

This proved to be a great success with Ms Becca and Ms Meg being welcomed warmly into your homes.  On entry into school, some of those anxieties around meeting new people have been lessened and our youngest students have already begun to build relationships with their teachers in the familiar environment of home.

Today in FS1 was lovely, with children exploring what was on offer inside and outside and sharing lunch together before home.

A reminder that all children need to have a hat and a water bottle to have access to all of the play spaces. A hat can be a school hat or a favourite one that is easy to recognise.

Everything your child brings to school should have their name and class written clearly on it.

Workshop Sessions for New Parents

For parents new to school, and to those who need a refresher after the long break, there will be Training for Parents on both Moodle and SeeSaw, our virtual learning environments, coming up soon.

These will take place on Wednesday 28th August and Friday 30th August at 8 am in the Drama Studio.

Bug Club - Directly following the Friday session for Moodle and SeeSaw (30th August) , we will be holding a Bug Club training session. Bug Club is an online, whole-school reading programme that helps transform children into lifelong readers. Mrs Leanne- our literacy coordinator, will lead you through how to help your child use the platform and increase their love of reading.

Meet the Year Group and Meet the Teacher

This week Y2 Parents will have the opportunity to attend some information sessions called Meet the Year Group. In these, you will find out more about the curriculum in your child’s new year group.

This session will begin with a presentation from Mr Paul in the Sports Hall. The first session on Tuesday 27th August is for parents of children in Years 2-4 and starts at 4 pm. We arrange sessions in such as way that parents with 2 children will be able to meet the teachers in both year groups.

Y2 children can stay in the library until 4pm, then if you take them to the Sports Hall with you, during the Y2 part of the meeting they will be looked after in one of the classrooms.

NB - If you have children in Y5 & Y6, your meetings will be on Thursday 29th August, 4pm in the Sports Hall.

FS3 Phonics Meeting

Also this week, Wednesday 28th August at 3pm there will be a meeting for FS3 Parents who would like to find out more about the way we teach phonics and how to support your children at home. More detail will be sent to you by the FS3 Team in due course.

In Week 3, week beginning 2nd September, there will be some pop-in sessions for parents called Meet the Teacher. This is an opportunity for you as parents to introduce yourselves to your child’s teacher and to share anything that you feel is relevant in ensuring your child has a fantastic year at St Andrews. These 10 minute drop-ins will run from Tuesday to Thursday from 2.45 pm - 3.45 pm.
