The Amazing House Recycling Race

Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1: The amazing House Recycling Race.

There was a high-speed recycling race, the Eco Beasts have formed a partnership to help us shop sustainably, find out why we have an important non-uniform day on the 16th and did you hear about the Christmas card competition?

The Amazing House Recycling Race

Friday break time brought excitement as we launched our latest push on recycling and sustainability with a House Recycling Race. It was something of a grand relay race as children from across the Primary School battled to show who were the fastest (and loudest!) recyclers.

So, who were the ultimate recyclers?

Congratulations to Karen for being crowned champions, and well done everyone for taking part and earning lots of House Points!

STA Farmer’s Market with Happy Grocers

The main project for Ecobeasts this term has been to learn about ‘food miles’ and the sustainability of buying locally grown food rather than items imported from far away. Toe are pleased to announce what we hope will be a regular farmers’ market with ‘Happy Grocers’ at our Primary Campus.

Here are budding Ecobeast sustainability writers Prasanna and Tan to explain the project in their own words:

HAPPY GROCERS ARE COMING TO SCHOOL!

“In our Ecobeast ECA we have been looking into the selling of local produce in an easier, cheaper way. We discussed and planned for an opening of a fruit and veggies shop on the school premises. We wanted to make it available for the whole school community.

On our search we found multiple candidates for this job, and decided on ”Happy Grocers”. This company provides organic fruit and vegetables and delivers them straight from the farm to businesses or private homes.

In this way, fruit and veg travel releases less emissions and cuts costs. It also was important for our ECA to show a way to avoid plastic packaging of typical edible supermarket products.

Happy Grocers will come to our school every Friday (14:00-16:00) to sell some organic, seasonal fruits and vegetables that are common in Thailand. They will be set by the big pool on the Primary campus and they will be available for teachers, parents, staff and children.”

The week will begin with a non uniform day on Monday 16th November. Children should come to school wearing bright colourful clothes and accessories, to stand out in the crowd and celebrate their uniqueness!

There will be prizes for the best outfits!
