Christmas

Head's Lines: Christmas trees sprouting around our school.

Christmas is nearly here with a lot lined up over the festive period. It was great to see so many parents at the PTG evening. The Influenza A vaccination shots this year have made us extra prepared. And as always we will stay vigilant around our school and while travelling around Thailand with measures to prevent Covid-19.

Over the weekend, Christmas trees began sprouting up in the school’s offices, and most spectacularly in the Quad at Primary School and in front of the Red Building at High School. These trees, accompanied by the festive decorations popping up all across the school, are a cheerful reminder that the end of Term 1 and the Christmas holidays are only three weeks away. There is much to look forward to over the coming weeks with seasonal shows, music concerts and the annual Christmas fairs on both campuses of our school. Please keep an eye out for announcements regarding your children’s upcoming Christmas shows or music concerts as there are many more this year than in the past. The plan is to schedule many more showings and encore performances to smaller audiences so that everyone can enjoy these fantastic end of term celebrations in a safe, healthy way.

Last week was the official end of the Extra-curricular Activities (ECA) programme with many of these last sessions featuring celebratory shows in which children could show off what they have learned and created with their teachers. This past weekend signups for the Term 2 ECA programme became live on Moodle so that parents and students can begin reviewing and selecting activities during Term 2.

PTG Drinks

Thank you to our Parent Teacher Group (PTG) for hosting an evening of drinks at Ekamai Beer House. It was a very enjoyable opportunity for teachers, administrators and parents to chat about the challenges and successes of this past term and share with each other their plans for the upcoming long weekend and end of term holiday.

Drama
Earlier this term I was fortunate enough to witness some fantastic performances from our Year 13 IB Theatre Arts students’ final exam presentations for their course. This week, in similar fashion, Year 11 IGCSE Drama students will be putting on their final exam performances, so I am very much looking forward to previewing these devised mock exam pieces.

Influenza A flu vaccination programme

Last Friday a large team of nurses and doctors were present in our Drama Studio at Primary School to give the Influenza A vaccination shots for all the many families and staff who wanted them. I had one myself, and the goal here is to make us all more prepared to fight off the flu virus and not become too ill should we come into contact with the flu virus in the new year.

Health & Travel

Our school will continue to remain vigilant with measures like temperature checking everyone who enters either of our school’s campuses and requiring that everyone on campus wears face masks or shields. I’m proud to say that, on the whole, our community has been very good with following these precautions while at school.

As many of us in our community have been traveling around Thailand, it would be greatly appreciated if everyone upon returning to Bangkok could keep their Health & Travel Declaration Form (found on Moodle) up to date. This information could be an important contact tracing record for the Ministry of Public Health in the unfortunate event of an outbreak.

Thank you all for your continued support and cooperation in all these areas to keep our school community safe.

School Calendar
Our school will follow the recently updated school calendar that has been shared with our school community and is available on our school website. We realise the Government has recently brought in some additional holidays in December. However, please be aware that St Andrews will not be adding any additional holidays or making any further changes to the calendar this year. For your convenience, you can find the updated school calendar for 2020-2021 here.
