At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs, both in class and in a variety of withdrawal sessions, through a number of overlapping programmes. Experience of working with High School (11-18) students with learning challenges such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome or of teaching vocational qualifications, such as BTECs, would be a significant advantage.
We are currently recruiting for Learning Support Assistants who have appropriate experience to contribute to the continued development of one or more of the following programmes for both January 2021 and August 2021.
English+/English++ programmes are designed to provide short-term support for those students whose level of English would currently adversely affect their ability to access the curriculum. In Key Stage 4, a small number of students receive English support as one of their Option Choices.
Academic Support enables those students who might otherwise have difficulty accessing the full curriculum to continue to learn either alongside their peers or working small groups in specific subjects.

Key responsibilities for a Learning Support Teachers:
- Experience teaching English as an Additional Language to student of varied abilities and ages within the High School
- Establish a caring and nurturing relationship with students.
- Establish effective working relationships with subject teachers.
- Develop professional relationships and effective communication with parents.
- Develop a broad knowledge of different curriculum areas, adapt tasks and help to prepare materials and resources.
- Be aware of the needs of individual students and anticipate the implications of these needs in a variety of teaching and learning situations.
- Facilitate and model positive behaviour and interactions between students.
- Assist in planning and delivering differentiated curriculum activities based on the student’s IEP.
- Accompany and assist students and staff on community involvement experiences. School trips, work experience and whole school activities such as cultural celebrations, productions and inter-school events
- Participate in other school duties and activities as directed by the Learning Support Coordinator, Head of Phase or Head of School.
