High School Learning Support Assistant

  • Period: Full Time
  • Contract: Fixed Term Contract
  • Closing date for applications: 11 December 2020

At St Andrews, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, and have an excellent reputation for supporting children with special educational needs, both in class and in a variety of withdrawal sessions, through a number of overlapping programmes. Experience of working with High School (11-18) students with learning challenges such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome or of teaching vocational qualifications, such as BTECs, would be a significant advantage.

We are currently recruiting for Learning Support Assistants who have appropriate experience to contribute to the continued development of one or more of the following programmes for both January 2021 and August 2021.

English+/English++ programmes are designed to provide short-term support for those students whose level of English would currently adversely affect their ability to access the curriculum. In Key Stage 4, a small number of students receive English support as one of their Option Choices.

Academic Support enables those students who might otherwise have difficulty accessing the full curriculum to continue to learn either alongside their peers or working small groups in specific subjects.

Our Functional Skills programme is tailored to the individual needs of each student, and would include a combination of in-class support, as above, and withdrawal sessions, focussing on both academic and social development.

Our Embracing Differences programme enables students with more significant learning needs to spend the majority of the week in small groups, though we are always keen to build these students’ abilities to participate in a growing number of lessons with their peers.
