High School: An exceptional week of offers!

Our Year 13 students have been receiving fantastic university offers. One of our exceptional students has accepted the role of Community Manager for NAE's Global Campus. There's an important update for Year 11 & 13 Mock Exams. And, we invite members of our community to attend this week's online Holocaust Remembrance Day commemoration.

Universities Update

In a Newsletter towards the end of last term, I congratulated Arin (Year 13) on receiving the Class of 2021’s first University offer, to study Biomedical Science at the University of Warwick.

Year 13 students have been receiving offers ever since, and in Newsletters this term I will regularly update you about some of the offers that our students have received.

This week we congratulate Helen, Karl Michael, Kazu and Niya, who have all received offers from Imperial College London and/or University College London:

Congratulations to these students, and good luck to them, and all the other Year 13 students, as they wait for offers from other universities, both in the UK and around the world.

Congratulations to Enya (Year 12)

hs ib

We are delighted to announce that Enya (Year 12) has been offered and has accepted the role of Community Manager for NAE's Global Campus. The process involved in selecting the best candidate for these Global Campus roles was highly competitive and open to students from the entire NAE family of schools.

Enya will be overseeing the student content from the Southeast Asia and Middle East region, working closely with NAE's Global Campus teams in the region and in London. This includes working with the Directors of NAE to manage and improve the content on Global Campus for the year ahead. Please join us in congratulating Enya on her successful application for this position and wishing her the best of luck with her new role.

Year 11 and 13 Mock Exams Update

In Monday 11th January’s Newsletter, and on our VSE Guidelines, I wrote:

“Our current plan is that Year 13 Mock Exams will be delayed one week, and will now begin on Monday 1st February. This is the same week as Year 11 Mock Exams and the first week that we currently expect students to be back in school.”

While we still hope to reopen on Monday 1st February, this has not yet been confirmed by the BMA or the Ministry of Education.

We know that this uncertainty is having a negative effect on our Year 11 and 13 students as they prepare for their Mock Exams. While it is important to note that students’ Mock Exam results do not directly affect either their Predicted or final (I)GCSE/IBDP grades, we want all of the students to do as well as they possibly can in these exams, to better inform the students, and their teachers and parents, of their strengths and areas that need more focus between now and the May/June exams.

If we are able to reopen on Monday 1st February, Year 13 Mock Exams will now begin on Wednesday 3rd February, with Year 11 Mock Exams beginning on Friday 5th February. This will allow all Year 11 and 13 students to have some final face-to-face lessons before beginning their Mock Exams, but still allow those Year 13 students who require Mid-Year Reports for their US university applications the opportunity to demonstrate their progress before the school completes these Reports. Year 11 and 13 Exam Reports and Parent/Student/Teacher Meetings would then take place after half-term.

We will send a further update later this week, either confirming these plans or sharing our revised plans if the current period of VSE is extended.

UN International Holocaust Remembrance Day

hs 03

Last year, Mr Paul and I, as well as a small group of students, attended a very moving UN International Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony at The United Nations Building, with last year’s event also commemorating the life of Anne Frank.

Unfortunately, this year’s event is cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions, but an online event will be screened at 10 am on Wednesday on the Facebook page of the Embassy “Israel in Thailand”. We would like to invite all members of our community to join us in watching this event, and will be sharing some of the video of the event, alongside an Assembly created by a group of Year 9 students, with all High School students in this week’s Wellbeing lessons.

NAE Parent Survey - Final reminder

At this time every year, when we are planning school developments for the next academic year, we send out our Annual Parents Survey. This survey covers all the key areas of the school including the learning environment and teaching we provide, the way in which we support your child’s social development, our range of facilities and the way in which we communicate with our families.

We would very much like you to complete this survey as your feedback helps us to provide the best possible experiences for your child. Please note that Parents need to complete the survey in one sitting. The survey is designed to capture feedback on a per family basis, but if both parents take the survey this is also fine.

The views of all of our parents will be used to inform our strategies for continued improvement. The closing date is Sunday 31st January 2021.
