High School: Back-tivities

Extra-curricular activities are back! We have an air quality update and the fantastic offers to universities keep rolling in with a special spotlight on Aviation!

It was great to see Activities back in the High School this afternoon, with students taking part in a huge range of different Activities, including F1 in Schools and VEX V5 Robotics (shown above) - another sign that life at St Andrews is getting back to normal after our recent period of the Virtual School.

Air Quality Update

The AQI was over 100 for much of last week, so I thought that it would be useful to remind you all of our Air Quality Policy.

Air Quality

We monitor the AQI at all times, with 12 AirVisual air monitoring devices, inside and outside, across Primary and the High School. You can see data from our public AirVisual device both on the Air Visual website, which updates every hour, and live on the Moodle homepage.

the AQI

For the last year we have also had over 100 Mi Air Purifier Pros in classrooms around the High School, and during the Christmas holiday we installed new fresh air ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator) systems into all of our non-classroom spaces, including the Library, Shared Areas, Sports Hall and Theatre. Our data from our AirVisuals over the last few weeks show that these have been very effective in lowering the levels of PM 2.5 and CO2 within our buildings, ensuring that students and teachers are breathing clean air whatever the AQI is outside.

At break and lunchtimes, it is important to remember that all High School students always have access to Shared Areas and the Sports Hall during breaks and lunchtimes, so any High School students who are unusually sensitive to air pollution have plenty of options.

Universities Update

IB

In this week’s University Update we congratulate Kai, who has wanted to be an airline pilot for as long as he can remember and now has offers for Commercial Aviation and Aeronautical Science courses from five US universities: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Indiana State University, Ohio University, the University of North Dakota and Western Michigan University.

Kai is especially excited about his offer from the University of North Dakota, where the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences (UND Aerospace) has a fleet of over 120 aircraft - one of the largest fleets of civilian aircraft in North America.

University updates

Please note that this Friday - Friday 12th February - will be a normal school day, despite the recently announced Government holiday on this date.

Three different Calendar layouts to choose from this week...
