If you were around school this week you might have caught a glimpse of Year 4 taking on the role of Medical Marvel professors as part of our MIT challenge.
We watched videos teaching us about the difficulties people who have disabilities face when performing everyday activities. We were amazed to discover the innovative inventions which have and are still being developed today to enable individuals with disabilities to perform activities in today’s society with comfort and ease.
Throughout the course of the week, Year 4 performed various tasks that enabled them to empathise with an individual with a disability. Tasks included: wearing a blindfold and walking to the other side of the classroom; wearing a thick glove before trying to open a water bottle; reading a book and playing a guitar with one hand; walking from one side of the room to the other on one foot and wearing ear muffs whilst trying to talk to their friends. Children later came up with imaginative ideas for inventions that would help an individual with a disability.
