Jo started teaching after a successful career in product management in the UK and US, followed by a move to China. As an English teacher in Beijing, Jo has been responsible for path-breaking the new A Level syllabuses as well as being responsible for all the schemes of work for Year 13 and Year 9 students and the school-wide teaching and learning website for staff. In China, Jo was lucky enough to lead trips to the Literary Festival in Hong Kong, the Year 9 expedition to Inner Mongolia and numerous school ski trips.
Jo joined BISB in August 2017. Jo is passionate about international education and believes that diversity is increasingly vital in our world. As a third culture child herself (an Italian who grew up in the UK), she has empathy for international school students and the challenges they face. She is also ambitious for the students in her classes, encouraging personal responsibility and academic excellence, so that they will be equipped as leaders who take responsibility for their world as well as their learning.
In her spare time, Jo enjoys skiing and finding unusual places that reveal surprising aspects of a culture. Unsurprisingly for an English teacher, she is also an avid reader who is passionate about poetry: amongst her favourites are T.S Eliot; Emily Dickinson and George Szirtes. She has an eclectic taste in novels, reading many in translation, and is starting to read her way through the great Hungarian works of literature.
