Explosive facts were relayed to children, parents and staff in Thursday’s assembly as Year 4C students shared some of the key facts and excellent work from the IPC unit, ‘Active Planet’. Thank you to the Year 4C team, we were captivated from start to finish.
Also on Thursday, our seven Early Years classes joined together for their production of, ‘There’s a Sunflower in my Supper’. The children gave a colourful, confident performance. It was wonderful to see how much the children enjoyed this opportunity to shine. We were all extremely proud of the children and the Early Years team.
On Tuesday and Wednesday this week, our School Magazine club which is led by Mrs Dook and Mrs Crease will be selling this term’s exciting magazine. The magazine will be on sale at break time and has a small cost of QR5. Well done to our highly talented team.
As we approach the holy month of Ramadan, preparations are underway at the Gharaffa campus. Yesterday, traditional, colourful lanterns also known as Fanoos where hung in the main entrance. There will be a special Ramadan assembly for children from Year 1 to Year 6 on Thursday, all parents are welcome. Parents have previously asked the school if we can provide an information morning about Ramadan, tomorrow the FCS (Friends of Compass) team will be hosting a coffee morning where parents can sample Arabic coffee and traditional Ramadan delicacies which are usually consumed during Iftar. Balsam, one of our lovely Qatari parents will host the morning which promises to be highly informative. All parents are welcome.
As Islam is based on a lunar calendar we cannot predict on which day next week Ramadan will fall. However, we are expecting the date to be around the 15 May. Parents will be informed once the crescent moon has been sighted as this will signify when observance begins. Please be informed that once Ramadan begins, school times will be 8am until 1pm. On the 14th day of Ramadan we will be asking the children to come to school dressed in colourful clothes to mark ‘Garangao’ which falls half way through the holy month. We will not be asking children to bring in sweets or nuts as many of our children will be fasting – however, all classes will be learning about the significance of the day.
On Wednesday evening our Year 6 children will be attending their Y6 leavers’ party. The party will be held at the Al Sharq hotel. This event is held before Ramadan to enable all our children to attend. We are very much looking forward to the evening.
Also this week, Mr Mannings has sent out invitations to parents for this term’s informal Music Ensemble. Parents of musicians will be invited in for this concert which will take place in the music room.
Please be informed that all ECAs will finish this Thursday – please ensure that your child is collected promptly at 1.30pm and 1pm when Ramadan hours begin.
Have a good week.
