Compass Students Meet with Charges d’Affaires of the Costa Rican Embassy Our Year 8 Spanish students visited the Oryx Rotana Hotel where they were welcomed by the Charges d’Affaires of the Costa Rican Embassy, Sr. Carlos Beer-Arguello Our Year 8 Spanish students visited the Oryx Rotana Hotel where they were welcomed by the Charges d’Affaires of the Costa Rican Embassy, Sr. Carlos Beer-Arguello.

The students were given a talk on the importance of learning Spanish as a Second Language and how it can help them in the future. They were shown a video about Costa Rica and had a very informative question and answer session with the Costa Rican representative. As well as speaking Spanish to native speakers, the students were also treated to a sample of Spanish culinary delights that were laid on by Oryx Rotana hotel provided by its Spanish restaurant, The Cellar.

The students were intrigued by the discussion and have now begun a learning project on Costa Rica which they hope to present to Sr. Beer-Arguello in the near future.

In order to raise the profile of foreign language study, our Modern Foreign Languages faculty are fostering links with various embassies in Doha to provide educational visits such as this. Following the success of this event, the Embassy of Paraguay has expressed an interest in speaking with students at a similar event in the future.
