The rain…gosh, well that was a surprise.
We did sustain some damage during the flood but we felt it better to stay open and make some adjustments in the morning to ensure the safety of the children and do a quick check over of the building.
The building is now being cleaned and carpets dried out and areas of the ceiling that were affected will be fixed over the next two weeks. Our teams have been working very hard to ensure as little disruption as possible and, in general, I think they did a superb job and I would like to thank them sincerely for their efforts.
Some lessons have been learned in terms of fitting a stronger draught/water excluder under the doors to the EYFS tunnel to prevent it becoming a water feature again! Also in terms of some of the expansion joints in the building they will be re-sealed in the next few weeks.
Mr Cullinan and Mrs Lamb are in the UK all week recruiting teachers. Primary class teachers, language teachers, secondary subject teachers…the whole range. We take a great deal of time and care over this process therefore I hope you will excuse their absence.
We have added a number of teachers to the school since opening, their biographies are on the website and their pictures will follow shortly.
All the best
This week we have seen a number of dedicated workshops for parents. The HSK for Mandarin workshop offered parents an explanation of the HSK test itself and tips on how to help your child prepare. More details and the information given to parents will be circulated shortly.
Our EYFS team presented a phonics workshop offering a deeper explanation of the phonics, how they are taught within school and how to assist your child at home. Each reception child should have received a booklet to support the workshop. If you did not receive the booklet please email your class teacher directly.
The Yr 7 and Yr 8 students had the privilege of a guest speaker at their year group assemblies this week. David Labouchere (British ex-army lieutenant colonel and Ironman competitor) presented to the students on teamwork, motivation and goal setting.
Drama & Music
We were proud to launch our end of year play on Wednesday. The students (and staff!) will be taking on the fantastic musical ‘The Lion King’. Many students signed up for the CCA and we hope they will all enjoy this unique experience. Please keep your eyes on the parent portal as we will be sending out small requests for assistance, resources and skills.
Congratulations to our netball team who travelled to Repton School today to compete in a tournament. The girls drew 2 games and lost 3. However they only lost by 1 goal in each of those games. The full match report will follow next week.
