UPPER SCHOOL
Spring is in the air, and summer is right around the corner! The NBPS English Department and Learning Commons announce our 2022 NBPS Summer Reading program. All rising 6th-12th graders (current 5th-11th graders) will be introduced to Summer Reading in their English classes. All Summer Reading lists and assignment instructions can be found below all summer long.
Middle School: For each grade level, there are required reads, choice lists, and a visiting author choice book. Our visiting author this year is the prolific and popular Kate Messner! Additionally, there is a required annotation assignment for grades 6-8. Students should return to school this August with the reading and annotation assignment completed, ready to engage in activities regarding their required and choice books.
High School: We have created one choice list for grades 9-12, comprised of 36 highly-acclaimed, engaging books that span genre and complexity, including graphic novels, fiction, and nonfiction titles. All high school students should read at least 1 book off of our choice list. Students enrolled in an Honors or I.B. course for 2022-2023 should read at least 2 books off of our choice list. There is a corresponding assignment that students should complete prior to the start of school in August. Naturally, we encourage students to read as many of the choices as they wish!
Summer Reading Shop: The Upper School Friends of the Library will be holding the Summer Reading Book Shop April 18-22, in the Learning Commons. All Summer Reading books will be available for you and your children to browse and to purchase; all students will visit with their English classes (5th grade students with homeroom teachers). Purchases benefit the Learning Commons collection and programming.
Eagles Read: Every book students read this summer qualifies for our Upper School reading program, Eagles Read! The more students read, the better head start they will have toward the 2022-2023 Eagles Read Award: fifteen books for the Award of Merit and thirty books for the Award of Excellence. Students will record their summer reads upon returning to school in August.

LOWER SCHOOL
As the countdown to summer begins, the lower school teachers and the media center are once again launching our NBPS Summer Reading program. At the heart of our school is fostering a love of reading and our Summer Reading program wants to keep that up during the summer months. We have one simple request: Let’s READ! For each grade level, there are required reads and a required assignment. The children will have an opportunity to read and connect deeply with the story by participating in an activity complimenting each book. Students should return to school next August with the reading and the assignment completed, ready to engage in activities regarding their reading.
Summer Reading lists and instructions can be found below. To further connect our readers with books the Lower School Friends of the Library will hold a Book Fair @ Barnes and Noble in Boca Raton on Sunday, May 15th from 12:00-3:00. This event will allow families to shop for summer reading books and share together in a reading community, all the while supporting our Media Center. I hope you can join us for this fun afternoon connecting as a school community!
Thank you for your partnership in supporting our students' learning and growth. I look forward to nurturing their growth as readers and connecting them to wonderful books next year in our Media Center. I encourage you to take advantage of all the reading available with your student this summer.

Happy Reading!
