Windermere Prep Juniors take on the challenge of providing Acts of Kindness throughout the campus.

The theme for the junior class Laker Learning Time has been “Acts of Kindness.” Because the junior year is a time when students usually start to turn more inward as a result of the reality of college, the pressures of grades, and more independence, this initiative comes just in time to help the juniors become more others-focused. Led by counselors Tiffany Elliott and Deb Santostefano, the students have gone through a variety of activities to help them “find their happy.” To kick off the event, students watched this video on The Science of Kindness. From there, they teamed up to create a plan and then shared their plans with their classmates during an assembly during LLT. This week, the students are putting their plans into action. Students and teachers can see the following thanks to the initiative from the juniors:

~ positive posters around campus with inspirational kindness quotes

~ say hello to someone you don't know

~ sit with someone who doesn't have anyone to sit with

~ hold the doors open for your peers at lunch

~ give three positive compliments a day to three people you don't know

~ perform one kind act a day

~ smile

~ wave

~ thank teachers after class

~ make five people smile a day

Mrs. Elliott state, “Students have made a commitment to implement their plans for at least 5 weeks or until the school year is over. I will provide an opportunity for students to reflect on their actions as we progress through the semester.”

We are all thrilled to see how these next five weeks will make an impact for our school.

~ Dr. Leslie Williams, High School Director
