Today’s “Empty Bowls Project,” sponsored by our National Jr. Art Honor Society, is part chili, part art, and part heart! The chili will be enjoyed, the art cherished, and the empty bowls a reminder of people in our community who go to bed hungry. Thus, the proceeds benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank truly matter. Thank you, Mrs. Demko and the National Junior Art Honor Society!
We will continue to support the Second Harvest Food Bank with our involvement in WESH 2’s “Share Your Christmas Food Drive.” Our 6th graders’ excursion to Long & Scott Farm tomorrow will be the springboard for this food drive, culminating with a visit to WESH studios on December 13th. Although this is led by our 6th grade’s service initiative, we ask that the entire WPS community step up to the challenge. Please donate to the food drive through December 11th; let’s really make a difference!
And finally, the entire middle school serves our community tomorrow via their service trips. 6th graders, as mentioned, travel to Long & Scott Farm to glean crops for local food banks. The 7th graders, acting as our “Environmental Ambassadors,” will serve the Easter Seal Camp Challenge in Sorrento, tending to the hiking trails, facilities, and garden. And, the 8th graders travel to the Give Kids the World Village to offer their services in various tasks, preparing the village for the wish families. Each grade level serves their community at a unique destination, with the idea of a balanced trio of service experiences before they transition to High School. As such, students can make an informed, deliberate decision on the type of service that appeals to them so they can truly make a difference on their own. 385 student and faculty strong, the Middle School Family is attempting to make a difference in our community by putting virtus into action.
