Financial Empowerment through the Education of our Students (F.E.E.S.)

On Tuesday, January 14, high school juniors and seniors enjoyed hearing the story of Magie Cook.  Magie was an incredible inspiration as we launch into a newly created 6-part LLT series for our seniors, F.E.E.S. (Financial Empowerment through the Education of our Students).  The goal is to present this program to each class as they come into their senior year, covering topics such as:

  • EARNINGS, BENEFITS & TAXES – Understanding your net pay statement, tax basics, benefits, health insurance, and more.

  • BUDGETING & SPENDING – Controlling where your money goes, instead of wondering where it went!

  • BORROWING – Avoiding the pitfalls of credit and establishing healthy habits early on.

  • SAVING & INVESTING – What to know in your 20’s, the power of compounding interest!

  • PLAN & PROTECTING YOUR ASSETS – What you need and when.

As a former CPA and, more importantly, passionate about giving young people the tools they need to be in control of their financial health, I look forward to working with your students!  Today’s speaker offered a valuable perspective of the grit and tenacity it takes to project yourself forward financially despite the obstacles and hardships you may encounter. Her entrepreneurial success was inspiring to all.  I encourage you to talk to your children about your family’s financial practices and beliefs; anticipated sources of revenues in college and beyond, as well as expenses, both needs and wants, they currently have and can expect going forward.  Each week, I will share with you what was discussed so you can reinforce the concepts at home adding your own advice and experience. ~ by Maria Garrison
