As we are already mid-way through January, it is a good time to take note of the progress your children have made toward their new year’s goals. They should all be settling into the new routines that we have created for ourselves, and hopefully they have not run headfirst into any major obstacles that would prevent them from meeting their goals.
What goals have your children created for themselves this year? As the students look forward to the rest of the second semester, we want them to be planning with the end in mind. They should ask themselves, “What do I want the final transcript to look like? Based on that, how do I need to be prepared for the semester exam? How do I need to ensure quarter four is strong? How will I make sure that I learn the material from quarter three so that I am ready for quarter four?.... What should I be doing this week to make sure my final outcome is what I intentionally designed?” This type of backward planning will help students understand that learning information well the first time around and then reviewing it regularly will lead to greater success than putting off studying until the end. Every student has the desire to be successful, but if they need help with the skills, we are here to help with that.
Tomorrow, January 17, is conference day, but please know that the teachers are available beyond these dates. It is important that you are involved with what occurs in the classroom and beyond, so if you have any questions or just want a check-in meeting, please contact your teachers to set up time. ~ Dr. Leslie Williams, High School Director
