Parent Update - 26 August 2016

26 August 2016

Dear Parents,

Message from the Principal

What a great first week so many children and teachers have had as we start the new session!  As I walk around the school or as I meet children arriving in the morning, I am always struck by the smiles and the waves – even from the sleepy ones!

At today’s first Assembly I have been talking about the school’s values of self-respect and respect for others.  I asked them to think about how they wanted to be treated and why it is so important to think about others and to make new people feel welcome in our community. It is difficult to move to a new country or a new school so we always need to remember that and help each other.

In the Secondary assembly Mr Bishop talked to the students about setting themselves goals and persevering to achieve them. He told them of the inspirational story of a friend’s son, George Mills, who set himself short and long term goals to succeed in Athletics. The assembly culminated with the children watching George win the 800m in the European Championships, a true inspiration for all our students.

Have a great weekend.

Mr Cooklin

Please remember to log in to our parent portal, FIREFLY. You can view your child’s timetable, homework, year blogs and updates from your class teacher and from my team.

Click on: https://naishk.fireflycloud.asia – and remember to use the same email (mum and/or dads) that you’ve provided to us. You can also access Firefly via our main website. Click on the tab on the top blue bar.

Importantly, please note that the ECA sign-up (next Tuesday) will be via Firefly, so please log-on before then!

Please refer to the school calendar for a complete overview of what’s happening and when.  We also recommend that you take a look at the key dates calendar.

Sign-up for our Term 1 ECAs opens from 4.00pm on Tuesday 30th August until Friday 2nd September at 3.00pm using our online portal, Firefly.

Once you’ve chosen your ECAs you’ll receive an email with confirmation of your allocation on or before Wednesday 7th September. After receiving this you’ll be required to make transport arrangements (if needed).  All the relevant information can be found on the parent section of Firefly.

SWIMMING – Click here for FAQs

We’re sure you’ll have lots of questions, so please remember to check our FAQs on our website, Firefly or Facebook. Your child’s swimming timetable is on Firefly, or you can double check with your Class Teacher. Most importantly, on PE days, please come in your normal uniform with your swimsuit, goggles, towel and swimming cap in a swimming bag. Please remember to clearly mark the swimming bag, towel, swimming cap and swim suit with your child’s name.

As a quick reminder, on Monday the following classes have swimming: 1D, 1C, 9A, 6B, 5A, 5D, 2B and 7C.

Let your child proudly show you their classroom then have a quick chat with their class teacher until 8:15am. Next pop downstairs to the cafeteria where you can mix and mingle with other Year 1 parents over a cup of coffee.

If you cannot make it on Wednesday please feel free to contact your class teacher by email with any questions you may have.

Head of Year 1, Katie Malone, has commented on just how well the children have settled into the school routines and is very impressed with how quickly they have managed this big step.

Our lovely teachers will be ready and waiting to answer all of your questions, talk you through our curriculum and show you your child’s classroom this coming Wednesday. Please note the timings for the session you signed up for. The first presentation runs from 5.00pm to 6.00pm and the second from 6.15pm to 7.15pm

Parents are invited to come along to show support and feel proud of their little (and not so little) ones. Cameras at the ready!

The new September lunch has been posted onto the website and Firefly. Please remember to send in your lunch forms ASAP for your September choice.

If you need to make any change to your child’s bus arrangements, please let us know before 10.00am that morning by emailing bus@nais.hk and their class teacher so that we have enough time to record the update. This will also help us ensure their safe release from school.

Mr Bishop, Assistant Principal, is busy organising our excellent Parent Workshop series and we already have a great run down, which will be released shortly. In the mean time, if there is any particular area of focus that you’d be interested in knowing more about, please email Mr Bishop at Christian.Bishop@nais.hk.

Please enjoy your weekend and we’ll look forward to seeing everyone back again on Monday!
