Dear Parents,
As we approach the end of an excellent and rewarding term, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and partnership. It has been wonderful to see our children grow academically, socially, and emotionally over the past few months. Their enthusiasm for learning and the sense of community they bring to our school marks us out as NAIS Hong Kong.
This term has been filled with memorable moments from classroom achievements, class assemblies, school overseas residentials, trips within Hong Kong, not to mention our huge number of sports fixtures, Performing Arts events, showcases and the recent festive celebrations! All of which remind us of the importance of working together to create a nurturing environment for every child. I am sure that each of us will find a favourite moment to talk about it with our children.
We remember that we are looking for progress in all aspects of a child’s development: physical, cognitive, language & communication and social-emotional development. Importantly, we are proud of the progress each child has made and look forward to building on this success in the new year.
During the holiday, we encourage families to enjoy quality time together, rest, and recharge. Engaging in creative activities, simply sharing conversations, being outdoors and reading for pleasure, noting the advice from our Student Leaders below, can make this time both relaxing and enriching for you and your children. For those that have missed it, we have our Mindful December Challenge https://padlet.com/nisinixon/mindfuldecember and January starts with a focus on Health across Lam Tin.
Thank you for being an integral part of our school community, supported ably by our wonderful class coordinators and PTA Lam Tin Representatives Violet and Kandace. On behalf of the entire team here at NAIS Hong Kong, I wish you and your family a joyful festive season and a happy, healthy New Year.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back in January for another exciting term of learning.
Take care,
Stephen Sharma
Head of Primary
Meet our Student Leaders
In the next round of our regular Student Leadership updates, we have the English Student Leaders who took part the recent Reading Parent Workshop. Here they talk about why they particularly love reading, share their favourite books and give some good advice to promote reading at home.
Carly 6A: I like reading because you can really lose yourself in the author’s imagination. My favourite book is Harry Potter because it has an interesting plot and includes many magical moments.
Ellie 6A: I enjoy reading because you can imagine anything you want. My favourite book is The Magician Next Door because it features interesting gadgets that the magician uses and the house is magical too.
What advice do Carly and Ellie have for to parents to help their child become better readers?
Let your children read what they want instead of forcing them to read what you want them to read.
