Secondary Campus Weekly Update 15 Dec 2025

Dear Parents,

Secondary Campus Weekly Update 15 Dec 2025 - Secondary Campus Weekly Update 15 Dec 2025

As Term 1 draws to a close, it’s been an energetic and inspiring few months. Our school values have been alive on campus, with House spirit filling the air. We’ve celebrated an incredible Enrichment Week, where students traveled to a range of countries with a strong emphasis on service—an essential part of our school community that fosters empathy, global awareness, and a sense of responsibility.

We were thrilled to host our Model United Nations Conference for the fifth time, brilliantly led by our students. Each year, I am astonished by their ability to debate, negotiate, and collaborate—skills that mirror the qualities of future leaders and global citizens.

Our students have been competing and thriving in a wide range of sports, auditioning and practicing for Oliver!, and embracing exciting opportunities through our FOBISIA membership. This development has opened doors to global competitions and experiences, from online mathematics challenges to signing up to attend the annual FOBISIA Drama competition in Taipei in early 2026.

As our older students work hard toward their mock exams, I want to say well done for your dedication and resilience—and a heartfelt thank you to our staff for their unwavering support, encouragement, and preparation. Remember: success is built on effort, and every step forward counts.

Creativity has also been shining brightly, with participation in Young Musician of the Year, the NAIS HK Winter Concert, and visits to our senior neighbours—bringing festive musical joy to Kwun Tong.

We are grateful to our parent community for your ongoing support: attending information sessions and parents’ evenings, serving hot chocolates, and rallying for the Tai Po appeal. Your partnership makes all the difference.

Finally, our successful BSO inspection captured the very essence of NAIS HK. I am incredibly proud of the team that supports our students every day.

Now, it is time for some well-deserved rest. Wishing you all a peaceful and restful holiday, and we look forward to starting an inspiring and successful 2026 together.

Winter Concert Reflection – Ryan Sayce

Secondary Campus Weekly Update 15 Dec 2025 - Secondary Campus Weekly Update 15 Dec 2025

The Autumn term would not come to a true Christmassy conclusion without the Winter Concert happening. This year, the Secondary Winter Concert took place on Tuesday 2nd December in the Kwun Tong Campus Auditorium. The performances, led by seven of our school ensembles, brought the festive spirit to life with classics like We Wish you a Merry Christmas, Carol of the Bells, Bethlehem Boy and many more. The level of musicianship has never been higher than in this concert with the quality of performance being superb.

The ensembles were not the only stars of the Music Department to show off their skills. The winners of the Autumn Term’s competitions performed for a delighted crowd. Linus, Ruskin and Lucas all performed brand new pieces to showcase their incredible skills and talents.

The evening was punctuated very nicely by the addition of some Christmassy refreshments to really create an atmosphere where parents could enjoy the winter concert. Thank you to our PTA for providing this lovely touch to the evening.

Christmas Carols for Senior Citizens

Secondary Campus Weekly Update 15 Dec 2025 - Secondary Campus Weekly Update 15 Dec 2025

As is tradition at NAIS HK Secondary, a selection of our talented students performs each year for the senior citizens at a local center. This year was no different with 20 of our top singers showcasing a myriad of traditional Christmas carols for the senior members of the community. In association with the PTA, students also handed a personal gift to all those present and even encouraged a singalong of Christmas songs in Cantonese. A truly wonderful display of community spirit.

Brass in the Park

Secondary Campus Weekly Update 15 Dec 2025 - Secondary Campus Weekly Update 15 Dec 2025

The brass ensemble were very excited to take a small trip to the public park next to our school on the 10th of December to entertain the passersby with Christmas tunes. Our fantastic musicians took up their instruments to perform renditions of the traditional Christmas carols that we all know and love.

The local people stood to watch the band for over 30 minutes, and the band even made friends with a local dog who seemed very taken with the music on display. With each piece that finished, the crowds grew and the applause sounded stronger. We are already looking forward to bringing joy through music to our community in the new year.

Chocolatey treats from the PTA

On December 5th, we kicked off the festive season in style, thanks to our wonderful PTA! The students thoroughly enjoyed a warm cup of hot chocolate, a delicious treat that added a touch of magic to their day. It was wonderful to see their smiles as they savoured their drinks while listening to some cheerful festive music.

A huge thank you to our dedicated PTA members who worked together to organise this lovely gathering. It was truly lovely to see our students making memories together.

House Points were awarded for participants and winning answers, with Windsor emerging victorious overall!

Our Houses have also started to create beautiful House Christmas trees. Watch this space for the winners, who will be announced in our Festive End of Term assembly on Wednesday.

Celebrating our Students – Ethan. L (Year 7)

We are delighted to share that Ethan was selected to represent Hong Kong by the Hong Kong National Youth Hockey to join a tournament in Guangzhou on 21st November. As there wasn’t a U12 category this year, he and his teammates participated in the U15 category.

Ethan travelled to Guangzhou for a 2-day tournament and had an amazing experience. He felt incredibly honoured to represent Hong Kong. His team was made up of boys age 11 and 12 and was the youngest of the 8 teams in the U15 category. They came 2nd in the first round, with Ethan contributing 2 goals in 2 games.

The 2nd day was the semifinal and final game. The team fought hard with courage and resilience against boys that were 2-3 years older than them. In the end they came 4th place out of 8 teams which was a fantastic result.

A very proud moment for Ethan, his coaches, his family and us all at NAIS Hong Kong.

Congratulations, Ethan!

Year 7 Geography Field Sketch Competition

Year 7 students took to the Sky Pitch last month to practice their field sketch skills, looking down over Yuet Wah Street Playground. They learned how to annotate and sketch their surroundings with accuracy and depth. Year 7 Geography students were later asked to complete one more field sketch in an area of their choice. This could be completed from their home window, on top of a mountain peak, from the ground level of a public park etc.

Secondary Campus Weekly Update 15 Dec 2025 - Secondary Campus Weekly Update 15 Dec 2025

There were some outstanding submissions presented to the Head of Geography, Mr Goodson. Many congratulations to the following 10 students for their excellent field sketches, which will now be on display in a Geography classroom: Peony; Eunice; Jocelyn H; Diana; Thor; Fely; Amira; Adrian; Chloe L; Jocelyn W.
The grand prize was awarded to the best submission, which was selected by NAISHK’s Senior Leadership Team. Many congratulations to Manami Ohkura (7G)!

In a thrilling showdown on Wednesday, the U12 Girls Basketball squad faced Malvern in an intense match full of energy and teamwork. The first half featured fierce competition, with both teams exchanging points closely. As fatigue set in during the second half, our girls faced challenges but rallied with impressive screens and clever plays that kept the game exciting. The U14 boys delivered a thrilling performance against Harrow, leading 14-9 at halftime. Despite a strong push from Harrow in the second half, key contributions from Arthur and Nicholas kept us in the game, with Clay scoring a crucial basket to put us ahead. U16 Boys Football

In a thrilling match against Harrow B, the U16 boys celebrated a 4-3 victory, marking Julian’s final game with the Knights before his move overseas. The team started strong, with William assisting Julian for an early goal, followed by Cason scoring to make it 2-0. However, after a heavy drizzle, the Knights struggled with focus, allowing Harrow to equalise at halftime. Despite falling behind for the first time this season, Nick quickly leveled the score with a fantastic goal. The match became a back-and-forth affair until Cason netted the winning goal on a counterattack, securing the 4-3 win. Although Nick hit the bar in the final minute, the victory capped off Julian's farewell perfectly. With four wins out of four and two matches remaining, the playoffs are on the horizon in January!

U20 Boys Basketball

The NAIS HK U20 Knights suffered a 53-34 defeat at the hands of the AIS Eagles. From the opening tip, the Knights were plagued by a concerning lack of on-court communication, which critically disrupted their offensive set plays. This, combined with a series of unnecessary fouls and unforced errors, led to costly turnovers that the clinical Eagles capitalised on. A defiant third-quarter rally, spearheaded by Mika's hot hand from beyond the arc, offered hope. However, the early deficit proved too great to overcome. Sharpening their field goal percentage will be essential for the Knights to bounce back from this loss.

Last Sunday Boris won the 1st place at doubles and singles for the 2025 VICTOR Zhuhai Youth Badminton Open, China Badminton Association National Fitness Points Tournament.

UNICEF Club – Mrs. Curley

The NAIS HK UNICEF Club was established following the Year 11 Enrichment week. Over the past few weeks, the club formed a committee for welcoming members from Years 10, 11, and 12. Through various brainstorming sessions, the club developed an action plan that has guided their activities and initiatives. A significant milestone was reached on Saturday, December 13th, when the NAIS HK UNICEF Club, alongside five other schools, presented to UNICEF HK, showcasing the activities planned for the year to promote children’s rights. Hono and Winston were the first to speak during the presentation. The club's activities include raising awareness about Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and its negative impact on women and girls worldwide through advocacy and education. There will also be an opportunity to celebrate International Women’s Day with fundraising and initiatives promoting women’s rights. Finally, in June, the club will organise a toy drive to promote the joy of play, recycle used goods, and reduce waste. Through these efforts, the NAIS HK UNICEF Club aims to raise awareness of several key children’s rights, including Right 19: Protection from Violence, Right 34: Protection from Sexual Abuse, Right 2: No Discrimination, and Right 31: Rest, Play, Culture, and Arts.

STEAM: Opportunity to visit MIT – Mr. Rees

As part of our exclusive partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Nord Anglia students have the exceptional opportunity to travel to Boston and spend a week on campus. During this immersive experience, their schedule is filled with lectures, hands-on workshops, and activities that offer a true taste of life as an MIT student. We are delighted to welcome back Dorothy Fu and Miley Wong, who recently attended the program from the 3rd to 7th November.

Dorothy and Miley within an MIT Lecture

We are now organising the 2026 trip and welcome students currently in Year 9 and Year 11 to apply. The trip is scheduled to take place from 1st to 7th November2026. Places for this trip are limited by MIT across our schools, and therefore we are launching a competition to decide who can attend.

This competition will ask students to submit a poster and video presentation to our school’s STEAM Lead, Mr. Rees, which demonstrates their creativity and innovation.

The challenge brief is as follows:

The world faces many challenges today, from access to clean water to education inequality. Your challenge is to think of a problem or issue that you are passionate about and design a creative solution using the resources available at MIT. How can cutting-edge technology, research, or innovation from MIT help solve this problem? We want you to not only think about the solution but also why it's necessary and impactful.

Students would be expected to go through the following stages:

1. Identify a Problem or Issue
Think about a global or local problem that needs solving. It could be related to the environment, health, technology, education, or any other issue that concerns you.

2. Design a Solution
Use your imagination, knowledge, and collaborative skills to design a solution that could be developed or supported by resources at MIT. Consider how working with others—either as part of this project or based on past experiences—has helped shape your thinking. You can draw on MIT’s state-of-the-art labs, research programmes, and unique technology.

3. Create a Poster
Design a poster that clearly explains your chosen problem, why it is important, and the solution you propose. How would it work? Who would benefit? How would you measure its success? How did collaboration or input from others help you develop or refine your idea?

4. Present your Poster
Record a short video (2-3 minutes) where you present your poster and explain your solution. This must be an individual video: each student must record their own presentation.

IBDP Group 4 Science Project

As part of the IB Diploma Programme, students studying sciences participate in the Group 4 Project—a collaborative, interdisciplinary investigation designed to develop teamwork and scientific inquiry skills. Over approximately 10 hours, students from different science subjects (such as Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics and Sports Science) work together on a theme-based project, often linked to real-world issues. The focus is on planning, experimentation, and presenting findings rather than achieving perfect results. This experience helps students appreciate the interconnected nature of science, strengthens communication and problem-solving skills, and prepares them for future academic and professional challenges

This year's project was a task provided by MIT’s Professor Kait Becker who challenged students to test the properties of materials to measure its appropriateness for a purpose that it would not typically be used for.
