Staff Profile: Mrs. R. Hanson

R. Hanson

Head of Campus Tai Tam

Ruth Hanson is an educator and school leader with 22 years of teaching experience in education, including 12 years in Senior Leadership.

Ruth holds a Masters of Arts in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Primary Education from the University of Wales, Cardiff. She is deeply committed to delivering outstanding education and care for children, their families and the colleagues she works with.

After finishing her Masters, Ruth moved with her family to London from her home in Wales, to work at one of the UK’s leading children’s centres, The Thomas Coram Centre. Thomas Coram was the UK’s first designated Early Excellence Centre and during Ruth’s seven years here she became Assistant Head of Centre, and received ‘Outstanding’ grading from OFSTED twice. Whilst at Thomas Coram, Ruth carried out early years educational research with the Institute of Education, The Open University and Qualifications, Curriculum and Assessment (QCA) exploring the development of ‘Creativity’ and ‘Transitions’ in young children’s learning and development.

In 2010, the opportunity arose for Ruth to become an Early Years Consultant at The Children’s Hospital School at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Her remit, working alongside the leadership team, was to set up and develop a Children’s Centre for patients under five, their siblings and parents. The Children’s Centre was a huge success and a first for children hospitals around the world.

In 2012, Ruth joined Nord Anglia Education at The British International School in Shanghai, Puxi. For the past six years Ruth has been part of the Senior Leadership Team at the school and has developed the Early Years and Key Stage 1 departments and is currently Assistant Head of Primary.

Ruth is greatly looking forward to joining the school community at NAIS HK and particularly the teaching team in Tai Tam. She moves to Hong Kong with her husband, Abby and their two sons, Ben and Morgan.
