Mr. J. Rolfe

Mr. J. Rolfe

Business Studies & Economics Teacher

Mr Rolfe has an LLB Law Degree from Bournemouth University where his specialist subjects include International Trade Law, Employment Law, Property Law and Intellectual Property Law. Upon graduation, and after deciding that the Corporate Law industry was not for him, he embarked on his professional teaching career. Initially spending three years teaching English (IELTS and ESL) at a reputable private school in Bangkok he then returned to London to complete and attain Qualified Teacher Status in the UK. In his three years at a comprehensive inner-city school Mr Rolfe secured Qualified Teacher Status in Business Studies and quickly progressed from a Newly Qualified Teacher to Head of Department; teaching a range of Business Studies courses at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 levels including GCSE, A Level and BTEC Firsts and National Diplomas in Business. As a passionate and engaging teacher he has also contributed and led a series of whole-school policies and practices such as behaviour management strategies, engaging learning methods and assessment for learning techniques.

Aside from his passion for the subject, Mr Rolfe also has a keen interest in entrepreneurship and has helped students implement a range of business ideas.

“Since starting my teaching career in Thailand I have continued to develop a range of teaching and learning skills to ensure that my students progress at a positive rate. That being said, I feel that true success as a teacher comes from the passion I have, not only for my subject, but to enthuse and inspire students in my subject. Positive learning is about connecting the student with the subject content and facilitating that connection in an engaging manner – one of the reasons that I love Business Studies so much; business is everywhere and can be personalised to all interests.

Outside of the classroom I am a keen sports and fitness enthusiast, I cycle regularly and I love basketball and Thai Boxing; both of which I have developed afterschool clubs for. I believe that personal hobbies, whether sporting, creative or cultural, can be a tremendous accelerator of qualities which are transferable to learning – such as resilience, teamwork and respect.

Since meeting with Principal Mr. Cooklin I have been genuinely excited to join Nord Anglia Hong Kong. I believe that the school’s ethos for Ambition, Success and Personalisation are key to facilitating learning effectively and I cannot wait to get started on this next chapter of my career.”
