Just a couple weeks into summer vacation and many of our students are already hard at work in summer internships. Village’s Internship Program pairs students with internships in their areas of interest so that they gain real-world experiences to help inform what field of study they pursue. Our internship coordinator TeKedra Pierre sets students up for success, requiring that they apply for an internship as they would a job posting. They submit resumes, set up a time to interview with Pierre, and sometimes interview with the company as well.

This summer, we have over 60 high school students participating in internships through the program, ranging from making organic dog food at Lola+Baxter to shadowing doctors at Methodist. Many students are also gaining experience as employees in an office setting. Our partnership with MasterWord Services, a company that specializes in language support services, provides incredible opportunities for students to gain experience as business professionals in different fields of interest.

Students Tomaye and Etulimore are part of the human resources team- Tomaye is working on employee payroll, while Etulimore is recruiting new employees within the Talent Acquisition Department. In the University Outreach Program, Julia and Raheem are bringing language services to students all over the world. Working with the IT Department, Zachary furthers his interest in technology and coding.

Many of these students have different cultural backgrounds and speak multiple languages, making MasterWord’s mission a perfect fit- we are excited to see our students return in the fall with a whole new skill set and an expanded view on what they may wish to pursue.
