Get Involved

Whether you’re looking to volunteer at the school, attend a VSPA event, or just meet other parents for coffee, getting involved is an excellent way to connect with others in the Village community.  VSPA can help!

We strive to make new families feel welcome at our school! Getting involved is an excellent way to make you feel like you’re in-the-know and is a great way to create new and lasting relationships.

Volunteer at School

  • VSPA's New Family and Volunteer Coordinator oversees parent volunteers for recurring opportunities, like working in the Used Uniform Store, or single events, like our school-wide festival, Viking Carnival. In addition, VSPA Vice Presidents (VPs) for Finna, Elementary, Middle, High School, and Residential Life, coordinate parent volunteers in their respective divisions as needed.
  • Homeroom Parent (HRP)/Grade Parent (GP)

All Finna, Elementary and Middle School classes have Homeroom Parents (HRPs) and each year in the High School has a Grade Parent (GPs). HRPs fill a crucial role in the classroom. They are the liaison between the teacher and the other parents. First, as the teacher’s liaison, the HRP will assist in disseminating important class information and help to coordinate classroom parties/special events. Second, the HRP will assist the VSPA VP in disseminating information about upcoming VSPA events. It is vital that each classroom has a parent (or two parents) to fill this role.In High School, each GP organizes parents to meet for a grade-level coffee/lunch about once a semester and serves as administrator for a grade-level chat group. If you’re interested in becoming a HRP/GP, please contact your VSPA Vice President at

Parent-Led Groups

There are many parent-led activities that bring parents and families together in a fun and relaxed way. Some of these get together weekly, while others meet once a month.  Join as many of these as you’d like by emailing and let us know which group(s) you would like to be added to. You can also sign-up by filling up the form here. Your contact information will be passed on to the parent-volunteer leading the group. Groups may vary from year to year, but here is a sample:

  • WEDNESDAY COFFEE: Our most popular group! Parents meet once a week, right after morning drop-off. Come and go as you like, whenever you can fit it in. This is a perfect meet-up for parents looking to make new connections in a supportive, welcoming, multilingual group.
  • Walking Club: Hit the walking trails every week with friends right after drop-off! Meeting point close to the school, time, and day designated in an email to members.
  • Book Club: A group for discussing international authors and a variety of literary styles. Members meet once a month for a discussion, as voted by this year’s members.
  • Faro Chifumo (Parent Percussion Group): Interested in learning how to play a percussion instrument? No musical experience is necessary. Parents meet once a week to practice and perform occasionally.
  • Foodies Club: Monthly meet-ups to engage in a range of culinary experiences, cooking, and sourcing international ingredients.
  • MOM Club (Moms on Merlot): Stop by for a glass of wine and a chat with Village moms (dads welcome!). Meets monthly, day/time to be determined.
  • Friends of Fine Arts (FoFA): A Parent-led group that supports the growth and appreciation of fine arts at the Village School.

Want to start your own club? Email us at with your idea and we’ll help you get started by advertising for you in the VSPA News and on Facebook.

Parents As Links to the School

We know how overwhelming it can be coming to a new school (and new country). Our year-long PALS program welcomes new families into the Village School community. This program pairs brand-new families with returning parents with children in the same grade. This is a wonderful opportunity for new parents to learn from experienced, empathetic parents, and transition to the Village community with ease.  If you are a returning parent who wants to assist, or a new parent needing assistance, email
