The Mid-Autumn Festival is the second grandest festival in China after the Lunar New Year. It takes its name from the fact that it is always celebrated in the middle of the autumn season. The day is also known as the Moon Festival, as at that time of the year the moon is at its roundest and brightest.

The Mandarin Department held a two-day mooncake-making workshop for all the year groups.

They were shown the step-by-step process  of mooncake making; shaping the filling , wrapping , rolling, choosing from the beautiful mold designs and boxing them to take home to their parents.

The students enjoyed the workshop and learned about festival-related words as they made their mooncakes.

Activities like these are designed to present the chinese culture in tangible experiences encouraging a positive learning interest in Mandarin.

The Mandarin Department also wishes to thank and acknowledge the support of  Chinese parents who helped facilitate the workshop.
