This year we welcome two new friends to NAIS Manila- Zippy and Apple.

Over the coming year, parents and carers may hear about these creatures as Years 1 to 4 participate in our new PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) Curriculum.
Zippy's Friends is a program designed to help your child with their personal, social and emotional wellbeing. It was designed by the organisation Partnership for Children, alongside other educators. Over two decades it has been taught in over 30 countries.
Students will participate in 24 sessions throughout the year, covering the following topics:
- Feelings
- Communication
- Friendship
- Conflict
- Change
- Loss
- Moving Forward
Each concept will be approached in a child-friendly way through stories, role-play and games.
Years 1 and 2 (KS1) will follow the tales of Zippy, the stick insect, and his owner Tig. While Years 3 and 4 will focus on Apple, the pet hamster.
While this curriculum only runs for one year, the children will be equipped with lifelong skills to take with them throughout their school career, and beyond.
The aim of these programs is to enable pupils to be better able, to identify different feelings, as well as suggest strategies for coping with these. If taught these skills early on, they are far better equipped to handle life’s potential ups and downs.
At certain points throughout the year, students may ask for family members to assist with Home Activities. While these are optional, they will provide an invaluable opportunity to engage in dialogue with your child about their feelings and other important issues.
