There are a number of key concepts that underpin the study of mathematics. Students need to understand these concepts in order to deepen and broaden their knowledge, skills and understanding.
At NAIS Manila, the mathematics curriculum is composed of four main areas of study. These are:
- Shape, Space and Measures
- Data Handling
As a mathematical problem-solver, each student will learn and use skills such as calculating; sorting; ordering; interpreting and evaluating; representing; analyzing; communicating and reflecting.
Students will consolidate and further develop their mathematical skills from the previous year as they progress through their mathematical education. They will apply the knowledge they gain in the mathematics classroom to the real world.
NAIS Manila students will be following the English National Curriculum in Mathematics programme of study. The students will be taught in differentiated groups and lessons will cater for all ranges of ability. They will develop an independent approach to learning in an innovative and exploratory manner.
Students will be encouraged to take risks and find strategies to deepen their understanding and passion of mathematics. This will be done through a variety of activities - there will be individual practice at the students’ appropriate level, pair work, group work and problem solving – both in class and in homework.
