ISM Lions Come Home as Champions From the BSN Games

ISM Lions are the champions! 

2019 was the most successful year yet for the ISM Lions with a fantastic performance at the BSN Games. Held at The British School in the Netherlands, the games included tournaments in both football and basketball spread over the course of two days.

Training began back in September with our first squad trials for Years 7 and 9, where our coaches Mr Ho, Miss Graceffa, Mrs Graham and Mr Baxter started the long process of building their teams in preparation for the games in June. 

On day one of the competition, the boys and girls basketball teams got underway with convincing wins against all their opponents. Although confident, both teams were aware of the fact that their strongest challenge was yet to come on the second day against formidable teams from The International School of The Hague.

On day two, our athletes, despite being nervous, demonstrated that all the hard work and training paid off, with both ISM teams coming away victorious after outstanding performances from all of our players. Well done to Nadia Kuznetsova and George Burkov who earned the ‘Most valuable Player’ award, and Nataila Minibaeva and Anton Spinelli who were our ‘Most Improved’ players.

In football, the girls demonstrated true dominance throughout the whole tournament, winning every game and coming away convincing champions. 

The boys football team had a much tougher time. Despite demonstrating some excellent football over the two days, they came up against some very strong opposition. Despite the odds, the boys rallied together and managed a commendable fourth place out of the seven teams - one place higher than last year! Congratulations to our ‘Most Valuable Players’ - Vova Dmitriev and Marina Weis - and our ‘Most Improved’ Gherman Myuller and Mane Vardanyan.

The contributions of each individual team meant that ISM Lions won the overall team trophy. As head of PE I am so proud of our Lions and very grateful for the hard work and dedication of all the students, coaches and support staff.
