NAE Music Festival 2021

Nord Anglia Music Festival Live 2021

At a time when chances to perform in real time to the public have been more limited than usual, The Virtual Nord Anglia Music Festival presented an excellent opportunity for students to finally showcase their talents ‘live’.

The Virtual Nord Anglia Music Festival Live, this year’s most anticipated event, saw over a hundred young musicians and singers aged 9 - 18 from eight Nord Anglia Education schools across Europe gather together in snowy Moscow. From 23rd to 25th March, students had a chance to indulge in a vast array of workshops and compete for fame and glory.

Broadcasted online to all European schools and their parent communities, the fierce competition consisted of solo performances by talented students. The responsibility of picking the best fell upon the shoulders of carefully selected judges, including accomplished international musicians, heads of music departments, and even a famous opera star.

The standard of performances was so high that the judges had a very difficult time choosing the winners. We would like to congratulate everyone for participating and recognise the achievements of the following students.

In addition to the competitive element, the festival included a range of workshops and masterclasses. Hosted live by international guest practitioners like Roget Cutts and David Aspin from Manchester’s Royal Northern College of Music and rock musician Tony Watkins, the sessions offered students a unique chance to learn new tricks and improve their skills in various disciplines. In order to bring a little bit of Russia to the table, all students had the opportunity to take part in Russian language, dance and cookery workshops, creating an immersive and exciting cultural experience.

The pinnacle of the three-day event - the finale concert, which involved winners from all schools performing live to an online audience of over 300 people - was the icing on the cake and a fitting celebration of everyone’s efforts.

This was a unique experience. We all got to perform and compete again, like how it was before. There were changes that made things difficult, but they made this festival even more special. Thank you for organising this! YooEun, Prague British International School

We would like to thank students and parents for their participation and ISM staff, as well as colleagues from other Nord Anglia Schools across Europe for all the hard work and dedication that went into organising this wonderful festival.
