Firstly, the parents gained a greater understanding of what phonics actually is. We discussed the early days of phonics learning where it is all about exploring and experiencing sounds in and around our environment. Next we moved onto looking at how we teach the children new sounds, and importantly why we do things in certain ways. Our mum’s and dad’s also got the opportunity to play some of the games we play here in school. Simon says was a bit tricky for some of our parents, but they all did much better at sound bingo (congratulations to Samara’s mum on winning).
We finished off with a few tips and tricks to help children understand and more importantly love reading and writing. The parents left with a bit more understanding of just how hard it is for their little four and five year olds to learn how to read and write. Thanks to all the parents who managed to come into school to support their children’s learning.
