Year 7 Parent Information Evening
Our Year 7 Parent Evening took place this week with a chance for parents to meet the Year 7 form tutors as well. Mr Ben Durrant the Head of Year 7 addressed the parents and gave advice on how parents can best support their children through their first year of Secondary school. It is always a delight for us to meet the parents of students who we hope will be with us for the next 7 years!
PTG Monthly meeting
Our first monthly PTG Meeting was held today and was very well attended, with lots of parents entering into discussions and providing new and fresh ideas. It was particularly good to welcome so many new Year 7 parents. All parents at the school are automatically members of the PTG and are welcomed at the monthly meetings. The PTG can be contacted at email@example.com">firstname.lastname@example.org
We were particularly pleased to have some fathers join us for the meeting today and hope this will be the start of a new trend.
Please do join us for the next meeting on Friday 7 October at 08h15 at the Secondary Campus.
ABRSM High Scorers’ Concert
The top scoring students in the recent ABRSM Music Exams will be performing on Saturday 10 September at 7pm in the auditorium at the Secondary Campus. This is an annual event which showcases the extremely high levels which students reach on a range of musical instruments. Tickets are VND100,000 for adults, free for children, and are available for purchase at the door.
International Day - Country Meetings
Preparations are underway for International Day which this year takes place on Friday 14 October. All parents who are interested in assisting on the day are invited to attend a meeting on Friday 16 September at 8.30am in Room 125 on the first floor of the new building. International Day is always greeted with keen anticipation by the students and it is only with the participation of the parents and PTG that we are able to make this happen.
Community Partner Visits
Tuesday afternoon was a special time in the school calendar for teachers.
All teachers had the opportunity to take part in visits to several of our community partners. These visits provide an occasion for teachers to take part in, and experience, the types of activities which many BIS students participate in through community service after school clubs and events, as well as through their International Life Skills (ILS) programme. Read more about the afternoon here.
Meet Mr Rick Wheeler The New Aquatics Director
Over the next few weeks we will be introducing you to some of our new Secondary teaching staff. Following several successful and very well attended trials since the start of term This week I would like to introduce Mr Rick Wheeler our new Aquatics Director.
At BIS, our 4 Houses play an integral part of school life, promoting collegiality, school spirit and a good deal of friendly rivalry.
This week saw students arrive in school proudly wearing their House T shirts ready for the first House Assembly of the year, excitement levels were high as the students were enthused by our news Heads of House, Mr Spalton (Hanoi), Miss Gallagher (Hue), Miss Jackson Dalat and Mr Roman (Saigon)
Each house exchanged ideas on how they could ensure that their House walked away with this year’s coveted House Trophy, awarded to the House with the highest number of house points for the year.
Students raise points for their house through participation in a range of events – from Drama, Film, Photo, Art , Photography to Danish Longball and many more, look out for updates on this year’s House competition in future blog posts.
Welcome to Brown and Penn Universities
BIS is looking forward to welcoming Brown and Penn Universities to the AP2 campus on Friday 16th September from 2.30pm to 4pm. We are also happy to welcome all members of the community who would be interested in learning more about the university and the programmes on offer.
Please do come along, we look forward to seeing you next week!
THE BBGV CHARITY FUN RUN IS BACK
Mark your calendars for the BBGV Charity Fun Run which takes place on Sunday 25 September. Registration is now open; collect your registration bib, pay your entry fee and buy a T-Shirt from the BIS cashier. If you already have a t-shirt from last year this is your opportunity to dust it off and bring out your running shoes in support of charity. Entry is free to the first 1000 BIS entrants.
FOBISIA Trials & Swim Trials
Sporting ECA’s have started early this year at BIS with trials underway from the very first week for squads and travelling teams to international tournaments.
After high quality trials, this year BIS will again be taking U13 Boys and Girls teams and an U19 Boys team to the Phuket Soccer 7s in November. Over 20 students attended each of the trials vying for the 10 spaces in each team. Decisions were difficult and involved intense discussions between coaches, we are confident that once again we have got excellent squads representing our school. Training will start next week in the designated training slots as advertised on CHQ. All students selected for these squads are of course expected to attend this training.
Trials for FOBISIA U15 Games in Shanghai are well underway this week to provide a select number of students the opportunity to compete with the best school in Asia at football, basketball, swimming and athletics. Students from Years 9 and 10 have been trialling in one or more of these sports to prove that they are a well-rounded sports person and capable of representing the school in a multitude of sports internationally. The last trial in athletics will be held today and squad selection will be made early next week. I am sure the excited students will be watching this space keenly. Good luck to you all!
Swimming trials for squad selection and eligibility for our newly added UNIS Hanoi Invitational Swim Gala have been continuing since day one of the school year. Over 60 students have tried out for the squads and the pool has been inundated with swimmers for every early morning and after school swim session so far this term. This bumper turn out is testament to the hard work by our new Aquatics Director Rick Wheeler and the excitement generated by our students in the swim programme for BIS this year. Final selection for the UNIS Hanoi event will be made available to students and parents once more information is received from Hanoi regarding squad sizes.
