Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly Update 05/05/2017

05 May 2017

Recently I have been meeting a number of parents whose children will be starting at BIS in August. I often describe the education process like constructing a building.  The architects begin with a clear picture of what they want to achieve in the end.  They then turn the attention to the foundations; if they are not firm, the building will not stand.

This week, at BIS, our Year 13 (and Year 11) students began sitting their IB (and iGCSE) exams; their education, which has been constructed over the years, is nearing completion.  In a matter of months, they will have left school and be continuing their journey into adulthood at universities around the world.

Going back to our building analogy, the foundations that have enabled the Year 13 students to enter this week with confidence, continue to be built at Tu Xuong.  The academic qualities of enquiry, reflection and perseverance are developed and refined in our English, maths and science lessons.  Alongside these, the moral qualities of integrity, respect and care have been demonstrated this week by the visit of the children from Thien Phuoc who spent Wednesday morning with Year 3.

On Monday 8th May, our clubs programme begins.  The children at TX have over 60 different clubs to choose from involving a wide range of activities.  Participation in a club will often involve the children learning alongside others and broadening their experiences, all of which contribute to them becoming the global citizens.

At BIS, we have grand designs for all the children in our care, and we have confidence that by the time they reach Year 13, the children who will be starting in August will have all the academic and moral components to achieve success.  For our current Year 13 students, we wish them the very best over the coming weeks!

And Finally…

On Thursday we welcomed back Mr Paul Murphy (from the Juilliard School) on his third visit to BIS.  He spent some time working with Mr Jon and discussing how the lessons and support for our music programme is going.  He was also pleased to hear about the positive response received for the visit of Nicole Jeong, the violinist who performed just a couple of weeks ago. He went on to inform us of the visit of another Juilliard alumnus later this term; this time we look forward to learning about the bassoon.

Have a wonderful weekend.
