Deirdre Grimshaw (104 posts) Head Teacher, Junior Campus View Profile

It was lovely to welcome all of our families back on site after our half term break. We hope you all feel refreshed and ready to go. This week, like many others was hectic in terms of activities and events happening across our campus.

Monday we hosted Andy Gleadhill who ran some fantastic drumming workshops with our students. Tuesday saw 4 football teams play in SISAC football tournaments across the city and on Wednesday our Year 5 students went back in time through the ages as part of the entry point for their IPC unit AD900. It wasn’t just the students that were busy;

Thank you to all the parents who attended the Term 1 Headteachers’ Coffee Morning on Thursday. At the start of each of these sessions, we talk about transparency – making it clear what is happening in school and why.  During the morning, Mr Ian (Headteacher of the Early Years and Infant Campus) and I talked about what the priorities were for us as a school, and to update everyone on how our plans are coming to fruition.

Amongst the priorities we talked about 'Effective Communication’.  We know this is a journey, so we welcome your feedback, particularly with regard to ‘Seesaw’, which was introduced this year.  We also referred to the Parent Handbook, which is now online.  The online version provides answers to all the key questions that parents need to ask, and access to the curriculum according to age group and subject.

If you were not able to attend.  There is a link to the presentation below, but please remember, we do have an open door policy and any member of the leadership team is always happy to meet or answer any questions you may have at any time.

Stay Vigilant

As in all major cities petty crime does occur, as a reminder to all of us please always take care of your personal belongings, especially when walking across roads and along the pavements.

School Identification Badges

With so much happening across the three campuses, we see an increase in parents and visitors on site and as such we need to be more vigilant about campus security both during the school day and at weekends.  We would like to remind all parents that school identification badges must be worn, even on the weekends when attending school activities.  If not, you will be asked for some form of identity and asked to wear a visitor’s badge.

If you are sending a nanny or driver, please ensure they have the school identity lanyard or some form of identity card. We thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students and school site safe and secure.

Managing our Traffic Together

Drivers Code of Conduct

For more information about how we can work together to improve traffic around our campuses, please access this post.

Safeguarding at school – it’s everyone’s responsibility

It is every parent’s wish to capture memorable moments on camera of their child at school either performing in an assembly, on their birthday or simply playing with their friends on the playground before the start of the school day.  Any photos that are taken by parents on personal devices must be kept private.  They must not be shared publicly on social media or between non-family members such as, other parents in the school.  By following these guidelines, we ensure our BIS safeguarding policy is adhered to and that our children are kept safe.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Safeguarding 3

If, during your visit to school, you have any reason to be concerned about the safety of a young person, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Person.

Please note that CCTV cameras are in operation at all times across the campus.

We look forward to welcoming you to our campus next week for Specialist Parent Teacher Student Conferences. Sign up is open now. This is a great opportunity to see how your child is doing in specialist subjects.  Thank you for your continued support and have a great weekend.
