Ms Deirdre Grimshaw: Weekly Update 09/11/18

Deirdre Grimshaw
Deirdre Grimshaw (115 posts) Head Teacher, Junior Campus View Profile

Thank you everyone for what was an incredible turnout for our Specialist PTSCs over Tuesday and Wednesday this week. It was very encouraging to see the movement in the Junior Campus gym and there was certainly a positive buzz around the room on both evenings.

All subjects were represented, as well as English as an Additional Language (EAL), and Learning Support.

We consider PTSCs extremely important in our calendar here at BIS HCMC and they provide for you, our parents, an opportunity to discuss with the specialist teachers the start of the year within specialist areas, and any targets that your child should be working on for the year ahead.

The next stages of our student update is the Vietnamese PTSC, which will be held in early December, and then the Primary Interim Reports, available on the 7th of December. The reports will provide an overview of attainment, progress and effort over the entire first term and more information about these will follow over the next month. Look out for further information in the next few weeks!

If you missed a teacher at the PTSCs this week, please feel free to contact them directly. They are more than willing to discuss progress and suggest targets if you were not able to make it along, or failed to make a booking with a specific teacher. Finally, for those with children on the Early Years and Infant Campus, you will have received information about a very exciting opportunity next Wednesday, 14th of November; The ‘Specialist Open Morning’. At this event, specialist teachers will be available to give an initial brief overview of how their subject works at the EYIC, and then parents will be welcomed into specialist classes to watch ‘live’ a lesson being taught by a range of specialist teachers. Very exciting indeed – we hope you can make it!

School Identification Badges

With so much happening across the three campuses, we see an increase in parents and visitors on site and as such we need to be more vigilant about campus security both during the school day and at weekends.  We would like to remind all parents that school identification badges must be worn, even on the weekends when attending school activities.  If not, you will be asked for some form of identity and asked to wear a visitor’s badge.

If you are sending a nanny or driver, please ensure they have the school identity lanyard or some form of identity card. We thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students and school site safe and secure.

Managing our Traffic Together

Drivers Code of Conduct

The changes are based on the following rules:

Telecommunications Service

New Network Code

If your phone number has changed, please contact Ms Nhi our receptionist at Nhi.Mai@bisvietnam.com to inform us of your new 10-digit number.

Please can you let us know as soon as possible as the old numbers will stop working on Wednesday 14thNovember.

Stay Vigilant

As in all major cities petty crime does occur, as a reminder to all of us please always take care of your personal belongings, especially when walking across roads and along the pavements.

Safeguarding at school – it’s everyone’s responsibility

It is every parent’s wish to capture memorable moments on camera of their child at school either performing in an assembly, on their birthday or simply playing with their friends on the playground before the start of the school day.  Any photos that are taken by parents on personal devices must be kept private.  They must not be shared publicly on social media or between non-family members such as, other parents in the school.  By following these guidelines, we ensure our BIS safeguarding policy is adhered to and that our children are kept safe.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Safeguarding 3

If, during your visit to school, you have any reason to be concerned about the safety of a young person, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Person.

Please note that CCTV cameras are in operation at all times across the campus.

Look out for our wonderful representatives from the PTG who will be on both campuses during the week selling tickets for the Family Fun Evening. Do get them early to save queuing at the gates next Saturday evening. We are expecting a great turn out! Looking forward to seeing you all there!
