Lifelong Learners

02 March 2018

Learning never really stops and at BIS HCMC we are always looking for opportunities to make sure we are at the forefront of new global teaching initiatives, and to develop ourselves professionally through taking part in research, courses and academic study.

  • Lifelong Learners

Congratulations this week therefore go to Ms Mary and Ms Sarah at the Early Years and Infant Campus who have completed a Senior Leadership course with Nord Anglia Education. This has been an extremely challenging and rigorous programme of study in which Ms Mary and Ms Sarah had the opportunity to deeply reflect on and develop their leadership skills and consider areas to develop in leading teaching and learning.

The programme is over 18 months and requires dedicated engagement with ongoing and monthly tasks, specifically aimed at improving systems in place at BIS. There were two week-long residentials with Nord Anglia colleagues from schools all over the world, online discussion forums and other projects related to improving our school through leadership. They also had to complete an extended piece of academic writing… all whilst keeping up with the day job of a senior leader in a school going through the process of amalgamating! This has been a significant achievement for them personally, as well as for us as a school and we are very proud of them.

Congratulations also to Ms Ly in F3, who has just received the CACHE Level 3 Diploma In Specialist Support For Teaching And Learning In School.

This is also an extensive 2-year programme of study that Ms Ly has completed both in school, through mini projects and working on specific goals, and also in her own time outside of school completing tasks, mentoring sessions and written assignments. She described the programme of study as “really a big challenge for me. But, when I hold my certificate in my hands and look back at my journey, I realise that if I try my best, I can do it”.

The course helps Ms Ly to understand clearly her daily work and to support children more confidently. Now she also feels confident to cooperate, to explain and to support her colleagues; helping them to understand and to support children better.

We love to share our staff successes with parents and children as we want to celebrate the idea that we are always learning.

I’m sure you’ll join us in offering all of them our congratulations.

Maria Shooter, F3 Leader and Class Teacher
