BIS HCMC is widely recognised as one of highest achieving international schools worldwide and we are proud of that fact. This was recognised in a recent magazine article which highlighted BIS HCMC as a “A Top International School that pursues excellence.” BIS HCMC is one of four schools in Asia that featured in the article.
Last weekend, a team of 4 Primary students represented the school at the FOBISIA Primary Maths Competition hosted by ABC School here in HCMC. Over 30 schools from all over Asia took part in this event and I am extremely pleased to report that BIS HCMC were confirmed as overall winners. This is an outstanding achievement and we are very proud of Tran Quynh An, Choi Yoon Jun, Park Yule Un and Do Le Quynh Anh. We are also grateful to Mr Andy James, our Primary Maths Coordinator, for accompanying and supporting the students throughout the event.
We have just heard this morning of further FOBISIA success showcasing what outstanding young writers we have at BIS. Raghav Dwivedi’s story, “A pair of grey-brown eyes”, was judged as the Secondary Section winner of the FOBISIA Short story competition. As we are all aware, Secondary covers students from Year 7 to Year 13 and for Raghav to win that kind of competition as a Year 7 student is quite astounding. Our sincere congratulations to Raghav.
Additionally, many of our students attended the recent Primary FOBISIA Music Festival in Singapore. I was very impressed with the standard of the recent Secondary School’s ‘Sounds of Spring’ Concert. The variety and quality of music on show was a revelation and we are now really looking forward to the Secondary production “Into the Woods” which will be performed in the final week of term. We were also pleased to hear that one of our Primary students performed at Carnegie Hall New York City. Kunho Jang, who is in Year 4, played the piano in front of a large audience at this iconic venue two weeks ago. Our sincere congratulations to Kunho Jang on this magnificent achievement.
I am pleased to say that our collaboration with Juilliard School NYC will be enhanced from August 2018 onwards as we extend our provision to include Drama as well as Music. In relation to this, Ms Astley, from our Drama department, went to Juilliard School recently to receive training to guide us in this direction.
We had a wonderful day on Sunday, 25th March at the Early Years and Infant Campus to celebrate our Annual Spring fair. It was a very enjoyable few hours where the BIS community had the opportunity to come together and enjoy each other’s company in such a fun way. There was a lot of entertainment on stage along with many activities and food stalls. On stage, alongside many different acts, our student choir performed beautifully as did our parent choir. I am very grateful to the school community for working so hard to make this a success, and a special thanks to the Primary School’s Parent Teacher Group for their commitment in putting this event together.
BIS HCMC are without doubt a great success! I do hope that you all have a wonderful weekend.
