The F3 children were curious to see what a real lab looks like and how it works. First we learnt about how to keep ourselves safe in the lab. The children eagerly put on their safety glasses and took a seat at the high lab desk. On each table were test tubes of hydrochloric acid, the children carefully added a scoop of magnesium to create a chemical reaction, “look there are bubbles!” the children declared. The Scientists explained the bubbles were hydrogen gas. Afterwards, the children took turns using a splint to light the Bunsen burner. Lastly we combined these two activities, putting a splint to a test tube of hydrogen gas, we were surprised to hear it made a squeaky pop!
We can’t wait to do some more experiments of our own in F3!
