The students have been learning or revising basics (greetings, numbers, personal information) through singing and playing games. Year 5 particularly enjoy learning with laptops as it is all new for them this year.
There is a variety of websites we use in class, but that children can use at home also to practise and review what has been learnt in lessons. Although there is no homework in Primary for MFL, we strongly encourage students in Year 5 and Year 6 to spend at least 20 minutes a week on one of the following websites in order to consolidate their learning and progress more effectively.
https://quizlet.com/
Learning sets are created and shared by the teachers. Children have many ways to learn vocabulary, as well as the option to print vocab lists or create self-assessment tests. It is a free website and students log in with their school Google account.
https://www.languagesonline.org.uk/ (French and Spanish only)
This free language website is full of exercises and covers a very wide range of topics for each language. Students use it in class so they are familiar with it. It does not require logging in.

One of our younger students’ favourite sites; Linguascope has many activities and games for each topic.
https://lyricstraining.com/fr (French and Spanish only)
This website is an excellent tool to practise listening skills through karaoke-style gap filling exercises. Older students love it, however, it has to be used under the supervision of an adult who can check that the content of the music video is appropriate.
We look forward to helping your children progress and love languages as much as we do!
