Ms Deirdre Grimshaw: Weekly Update 25/01/19

What a magnificent week this has been celebrating all that special about learning in an international school environment.

It was with immense pride that I watched our students take to the stage this morning to march proudly under their country flags.  It was also extremely lovely to watch the smiles form children waving to their friends in other country parades. Our community is truly global. A truly remarkable celebration of our ‘Global Citizens Learning Together’.

An event like this does not happen without much preparation and organisation.  My sincere thanks to Mr Chris McKelvie and Ms Mary McAloon for co coordinating everything to ensure that children across both primary campuses had a magnificent experience. I am sure you will agree they have done a spectacular job.  My thanks also to the amazing teachers who have taken our students on a learning journey across the globe.  Our campus has been transformed; providing a rich learning environment for all of our students.

The Global Café was, I am sure you and your children will agree, once more a highlight for all.  Sincere thanks to all that took part and special mention to Lily and her wonderful Global Café committee; Gayatri, Nandini, Ruchika and Dawa for their hard work in making this event, the most popular of the year!

Global Cafe

The celebration of all nationalities, cultures and traditions is something that we consider vitally important here at BIS HCMC, with our aim to be Global Citizens’; and International Week 2019 was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our respect for all who inhabit our wonderful world.

Tet Celebrations at the Junior Campus

Next week we will be celebrating the most important event in the Vietnamese calendar; Tet.  Our wonderful Vietnamese Teaching Assistants have been working so hard along with some of our students to prepare for our Tet Assemblies, taking place on Tuesday next week.  Children are invited to come dressed in their Ao Dai on this day and we look forward to the campus being a riot of colour.  We hope to see many parents at the assemblies also.  On Wednesday our small field will be transformed for our Tet Fair.  The children will have the opportunity to sample food, play games, do some crafts and art work. This event is for students only I’m afraid but I am sure they will tell you all about it at home.

Weekly Update 2501

We waved off 4 students yesterday along with Mr John Handscombe. They are taking part this weekend in the Primary FOBISIA Maths tournament in Brunei.  We are very proud of these 4 students and wish Gaeun, Phuong,  Subin  and  Gia Hung all the best.  Have a wonderful time!

School Identification Badges

With so much happening across the three campuses, we see an increase in parents and visitors on site and as such we need to be more vigilant about campus security both during the school day and at weekends.  We would like to remind all parents that school identification badges must be worn, even on the weekends when attending school activities.  If not, you will be asked for some form of identity and asked to wear a visitor’s badge.

If you are sending a nanny or driver, please ensure they have the school identity lanyard or some form of identity card. We thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students and school site safe and secure.

Managing our Traffic Together

Drivers Code of Conduct

For more information about how we can work together to improve traffic around our campuses, please access this post.

Stay Vigilant

As in all major cities petty crime does occur, as a reminder to all of us please always take care of your personal belongings, especially when walking across roads and along the pavements. This is particularly important in the coming weeks as we approach Tet.

Safeguarding at school – it’s everyone’s responsibility

It is every parent’s wish to capture memorable moments on camera of their child at school either performing in an assembly, on their birthday or simply playing with their friends on the playground before the start of the school day.  Any photos that are taken by parents on personal devices must be kept private.  They must not be shared publicly on social media or between non-family members such as other parents in the school.  By following these guidelines, we ensure our BIS safeguarding policy is adhered to and that our children are kept safe.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Child Protection

If, during your visit to school, you have any reason to be concerned about the safety of a young person, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Person.

Please note that CCTV cameras are in operation at all times across the campus.

A reminder that photos take place the week beginning Monday 18th February.  There are some sibling slots available.  The link is available in the letter that was sent earlier this week.

Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend ahead.
