Reading is extremely important to a child’s development. It stimulates their imagination and expands their knowledge and understanding of the world. It also supports children’s listening and attention skills and exposes them to a range of vocabulary, which helps develop language. Even if children are unable to understand the words they hear, they benefit from hearing new sounds and a familiar voice. Cuddling up and sharing a book strengthens your bond with your child, and gives them a sense of well-being.
Last Friday the F1 children had a special ‘snuggle up and read’ day. Children were invited to come into school wearing their pyjamas, in preparation for a day of reading and snuggling! We shared lots of stories throughout the day, and some children even bought in their favourite story from home to share. As an extra special treat, the children enjoyed some snacks and a cup of warm cocoa. A wonderful day was had by all!
In a world where we now spend so much of our day looking at screens, everyone can benefit from having some quiet time to relax. A perfect way to unwind at the end of a busy day is to snuggle up and share a book with your child. We have a library full of fantastic books; please come and borrow one any time.
