Physical Development Morning for our F1 Students

‘Physical Development’ is one of the prime areas in the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. It is vital for children's holistic development as it focuses on children's fine and gross motor skills and development of their self-care skills. This week, we welcomed parents to our physical development session which made it even more exciting for the children.

Parents and children took part in a variety of activities in the classroom and in the Sports Hall. There was food tasting, cutting, weaving, mark-making, washing babies and building with construction bricks in the classroom, all supporting the children fine motor skills development. The children also challenged themselves with kicking balls into goals, throwing javelins, completing obstacle courses and jumping over hurdles when they went upstairs. Everyone then got to show off their moves with some dancing, led by Ms Christine who has recently completed professional development training with Juilliard Curriculum Specialists.

During our weekly Physical Development sessions, we strive to challenge children to use their whole bodies when engaging in activities in the hall. We encourage lots of jumping, kicking, balancing, throwing, crawling, skipping and dancing. We also ensure that our classrooms offer an array of fine motor activities that develop their hand and finger muscles which in turn helps when mark making, fastening clothing and grasping small objects.

The whole F1 team would like to say a big thank you to everyone who joined and supported us in this wonderful event. We are extremely proud of all the children. They certainly showcased their confidence and strength all throughout the event. A big well done to our F1 children!
