Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly Update 29/11/19

Research, Experience and Impact are the three watchwords that we use when we are looking to develop BIS, HCMC.  All three components need to be there if we are to make decisions that will continue to improve the quality of education that we provide.

It was wonderful to see so many parents at the Headteachers’ Coffee Morning on Thursday in the Black Box Theatre at the Junior Campus. Members of the leadership team took this opportunity to share with parents the areas that we are focusing on as a primary school this year. There are six areas in particular, and if you would like to see a copy of the presentation that was shared please click on the link below:

Headteachers’ Coffee Morning Presentation

Last week I mentioned that we had the team of accreditors from the Council of International Schools and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges; they spent time in school helping us identify areas where we could develop and improve further as an organisation. In addition, with the work that had been done earlier in the year by members from the British Schools Overseas inspectorate, we are beginning to put together our school improvement plan for the next three years.

F2 and F3 Sports Day

F2 F3 Sport Day-2684

There was a great turn out on Tuesday morning for the F2 and F3 Sports Day at the Junior School field; so many parents were there cheering along as their children came onto the field to the sound of champions. The children had great fun as they participated in a range of activities including the zigzag relay, the egg and spoon race and the sponge relay.

Physical development is one of the three prime areas that we focus on in the Early Years Foundation Stage, so taking part in events such as sports really enables the children to develop in this area.  However, the benefits go beyond just physical development; there is also the social, emotional and personal development along with the communication and language that is involved as Ms Maria explains:

Opening the Bridge between the Car Park and Gate C

bridge

It was with great pleasure that Mr Anthony, joined by members of the mini-council and some very curious F2 children, cut the ribbon to officially open the new bridge linking the car park with Gate C of the Early Years and Infant Campus.  You will have received a letter today about the procedures for using the gate in order for us to maintain the security of the building.  Please read these through carefully; our highest priority is always keeping the children at BIS safe.

Vietnamese Culture and Vietnamese Language Term 1 Overview

Tet

As the school term begins to draw to a close, we look back over the learning that has taken place across the entire curriculum.  For our children who study Vietnamese, this includes reflecting on all their learning that has taken place after school on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Friday 29th November was the last lesson of Term 1, and we look forward to seeing many of our Vietnamese parents at the Parent Teacher Student Conferences that will be taking place in the Junior Gym on Tuesday 3rd December between 3pm and 6pm.

Reminders

Health and Safety

Clubs

Most of our Term 1 clubs will finish this Sunday 1st December.  Be sure to alter arrangements for your child to be collected from school on time at 2:50pm every day from Monday 2nd December.

There are a few clubs offering a ‘make up’ session in December.  You will receive an email detailing which clubs are offering a ‘make up’ session; these substitute the sessions that were cancelled through Term 1.

School Christmas Disco

On Thursday 5th December the PTG are kindly organising a School Christmas Disco for our Y1 and Y2 children.  If your child chooses to join the disco, they will need a ticket which can be bought at reception or from the PTG in the Parent Hall.  The disco finishes at 4pm; all children will need to be collected from the Sports hall on the 3rd floor as there will be no second bus arranged for this day.

Photographs

Please take note of the school’s policy regarding photographs.  Photographs shared privately through our online journal, Seesaw, must be kept for personal viewing only; they must not be shared publically on social media.  Any photos taken in school on personal devices must be of your own children only and must not have other parents’ children in the photograph.  All photos taken of your children at school must not be shared publicly on social media or between non-family members such as, other parents in the school.  By following these guidelines, we ensure our BIS safeguarding policy is adhered to and that our children are kept safe.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Stay Vigilant

As in all major cities petty crime does occur, as a reminder to all of us please always take care of your personal belongings, especially when walking between campuses and across roads.

Thank you,

Ms Mary

iSAMS App

At the beginning of this academic year we implemented a new management information system called, iSAMS.  Many families are already benefitting from the services this provides.  The system comes with a parent app that allows you to get important information about upcoming school events, access details unique to your children and locate quick links at the touch of a button:

  1. We can send you 'push notifications' to the iSAMS iParent App. In order to subscribe to these notifications, please follow the instructions attached sent via email on Wednesday October 9th 2019.
  2. You can log into CHQ using exactly the same username and password as your iSAMS Parent Portal account.  Instructions for this were sent via email on Wednesday October 9th 2019.
  3. You can view links to important information (e.g. Parent Campus handbooks, options booklets, etc,) by navigating to the 'Info.' tab and tap on 'Bookmarks & Web Links'.

Remember, using the iSAMS App or the iSAMS Parent Portal are the only ways you will be able to view your child's academic reports. In addition, there is a wealth of information for you to view on the portal and app. If you have not already downloaded this app, it is essential that you to do so in the next two weeks; Ms Sarah will be available next week to support anyone who needs help in getting started with iSAMS.

PTG

The children are looking forward to another great PTG event next week; the Christmas Disco.  For more details and other events happening in the near future, please have a look at the PTG blog.

Primary PTG Update: 29/11/2019

And Finally…

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas…as the song goes! All around Ho Chi Minh City, decorations are going up and the shops are full of Christmas treats.  Make sure that you have checked the upcoming dates on iSAMS and on your child’s class Seesaw, to make sure that you do not miss out on any of the festive events happening over the next two weeks.

Also, we hope to see a great turn out tomorrow as we join forces with our friends from ISHCMC to help ‘Clean Up Thao Dien!

Hoping you have a very merry and relaxing weekend,

Ian Battersby
Head of the Early Years and Infant Campus
