Last Friday, Filipino was launched as our new Language in Focus in front of students from F2, F3, Year 1 and Year 2. The assembly started with a quiz to find out what we knew already about this fascinating country. Children put their hands up to choose the correct answer, and cheered loudly when they got it right! After that we had a special treat as some of our Filipino students (and teachers) came to the stage to teach us a famous children’s song from the Philippines. “Paa, Tuhod, Balikat, Ulo” is Filipino for “Feet, knees, shoulders, head.” Everyone really enjoyed singing and doing the actions together, and it was great to learn some words in our new language.
This is just the start of our focus on Filipino. On the 2nd floor of the EY&I campus, you will find the Filipino display. There, students can test their general knowledge and compete with their friends in a fun quiz.
Class teachers will be doing activities about the Philippines and Filipino in classes. Students and parents can get involved at home by visiting the language in focus blog where you can learn more and find activities, videos and songs, including “Paa, Tuhod, Balikat, Ulo”.
