Ms Deirdre Grimshaw: Weekly Update 06/12/2019

Deirdre Grimshaw
Deirdre Grimshaw (83 posts) Head Teacher, Junior Campus View Profile

We have 2 large groups of students representing BIS this weekend in the sporting arena.

This morning 12 swimmers from the Junior and Secondary campuses boarded a bus to head to the airport to represent BIS HCMC at the Bangkok Feeding Frenzy.  We wish them the very best of luck! Tomorrow and Sunday, 20 athletes from Year 5 and 6 will represent BIS at the Nord Anglia Games at BVIS in D7. We wish them all the luck too and look forward to hearing from both groups next week.

There is a definite Christmassy feel around the campus as we approach the end of term.  The PTG organised 2 amazing discos on the Junior Campus yesterday where there was lots of festive cheer and Christmas themed outfits! We are excited for next week as we will have our Primary Christmas Carol Concert on Tuesday evening. It is probably my most favourite event in the school calendar as we gather on the small field to hear choirs, orchestras and ensembles from across both primary campuses share some wonderful Christmas tunes.  We hope that you will be able to join us at 6pm on Tuesday 10th December. In our Junior Campus assembly today, we got a taster with the choir and other groups performing for us and they were fabulous.

Our staff are busily preparing the traditional Christmas Pantomime which will be performed on Wednesday and the Christmas postbox is filling up nicely with letters that our elf helpers from Year 4 are delivering daily.

Our thanks go to all of you for the recent Tet collection and we are delighted that we will have a huge number of boxes to provide for our community partners.

Interim Reports

On Monday 9th December your child’s interim report will be available through both the new iSAMs 'Parent Portal' and 'iParent App'.  You will receive an email on Monday with the details of how to download the report.  Should you require any assistance with this process, please do visit the main office and we will be happy to help.

The interim report reflects the Term 1 progress and attainment against our BIS curriculum and Age Related Expectations for the year group.  Please take the time to read and share the report with your child as a celebration of their achievement, progress and effort this term.  For more information about our BIS curriculum and the Age Related Expectations, please click on this link.  This will take you to the parent handbook curriculum page from which you will be able to choose the individual year group or subject area for a more detailed understanding of what we measure progress against.  If you have any questions with regards to the report, please do bring these with you to the Parent Teacher Student Conferences (PTSCs) in January.  The Parents’ Evening System is open for booking appointments from Monday 9th December until Sunday 15th December.  Details of how to book an appointment will be sent via email on Monday.

Term 2 Clubs

CCA sign up is just around the corner and the Club Booklet is available for you to read from today! Lookout for the email informing you of available CCAs that should have hit your inbox today and then the official opening of sign-up begins of Monday the 9th of December at 5pm and remains open until 12pm on Friday the 13th. Don’t miss out! There will be a number of changes this coming term to make sure that the sign-up process is more transparent and fair to all. The dates that have been set will be strictly enforced, and once CCAs have been signed up there will not be an opportunity for changes. All club allocation completely automated using the CHQ platform. By doing this, we are better able to ensure that those who miss out on a preferred CCA choice will have the opportunity when the next round of CCAs begin. Payment for those CCA which charge fees will also be streamlined and will only be available over a 3-day period. Bank transfers are available, and certainly make life much easier for you, the parents, when it comes to making payments. We have an amazing array of CCAs ready for your children in Term 2, so get them ready!

Photography Competition

BIS HCMC Geography Photography Competition 2019

The Geography Photography competition has grown year on year in both quantity and quality. This year saw record number of entries from students and staff across all 3 BIS campuses. The theme of this year’s competition focusing on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child drew out some amazingly thoughtful photographic interpretations. The talent on display from the very youngest student to the oldest is clear to see and it was incredibly difficult for the judging panel to arrive at a decision for the top 3 entries for each age section. However, they eventually managed to narrow it down. Congratulations to all entrants and a huge well done to the winners.  Click here to see the winning entries!
