Mr Carl Mincher: Weekly Update 29/03/2019

Integrity, respect, care, enquiry, perseverance, reflection.

What an inspiring Friday afternoon! I had the privilege of joining Head Student interviews as we build our next student leadership team. My acknowledgement and appreciation of the outgoing team in last week’s newsletter reminded us of the big shoes these students will be filling.  As in previous years our hopefuls have passionately and intelligently articulated their vision for student led contribution to developments for the year ahead. Their reflections on their BIS story, some veterans of 15 years at BIS, are both impressive and inspiring. It is too early to announce the new Head Student team, we have more interviews on Monday, but I had to share with you...student leadership is in great shape. Look out for the announcement and new Head Student profiles soon.

Late on a Friday you would be forgiven for assuming that all was quiet on campus but no…

Singing their hearts out in rehearsals were the cast of Little Shop of Horrors -  from my sneak preview I encourage you to get your tickets soon - this is going to be one of the best!

Overview of the week’s activities

Go Vap Orphanage visit March 2019

A Saturday morning recently saw BIS HCMC students and staff embark on their community trip to Ky Quang Pagoda located in the outskirts of Go Vap District.

This unforgettable experience has taught us to be humble and appreciative of the things we take for granted. Chae Won Oh

Find out more from Chae Won about the remainder of the visit in her blog about the Go Vap Orphanage.

Y9 Shoestring Science

After weeks of planning, preparation and trial lessons with our own primary students, our Year 9 students took the opportunity to teach their own science lessons to Year 6 age students from Tran Quoc Toan (TQT) School this week. This is a great example of how we integrate our community and service learning into the formal curriculum.

Mr Chris Paine, Head of Science, explains more about the now well established Shoestring Science project undertaken by our Year 9 students each year.
