Ms Deirdre Grimshaw: Weekly Update 24/05/2019

Deirdre Grimshaw (115 posts) Head Teacher, Junior Campus View Profile

It has been a week of theatre at BIS and last night it was the Junior Campus Production Club’s turn to take to the stage with their magnificent performance of Mulan!

Mulan Primary Production - BIS HCMC

Playing to a packed auditorium, the students from Year 3 to Year 6 put on a dazzling display of acting singing and dancing.  With over 80 children involved in all areas of the production from performing on stage to being backstage crew, from AV technicians to set design and prop making, this truly was an amazing achievement.

Their performance on stage was incredible. There were so many proud parents and teachers beaming as the children brought us on a journey through Ancient China.  Of course this event could not have taken place without the support, guidance and direction of a committed group of teachers from both primary campuses.

To all involved; in the Music, Ms Beth, Ms Linden and Mr Rhys, the Acting, Ms Kirstine and Ms Elaine, the choreography, Ms Christine and Ms Fiona, the AV, Mr Rhys, Set Design and programme, Ms Debs and Mr Greg and the wonderful costumes, Ms Jules.  A sincere thank you to you all.  And thank you to you the parents for supporting your children and encouraging them to be part of this great show.

From drama to sporting events.  We will wave off 40 athletes this week that will represent BIS HCMC at the Primary FOBISIA Games in Phuket next week. Departing on Sunday, these athletes and their coaches will take part in 3 days of intense competition covering, athletics, swimming, football and Tee- ball against 5 other International schools from Asia.  We wish them all the very best and know they will be excellent ambassadors for our school both on and off the playing fields.

It has been a busy few weeks for our sports teams generally at primary.  Please do continue to read on and click on the various articles below to learn about what our children have been up to.

School Identification Badges

With so much happening across the three campuses, we see an increase in parents and visitors on site and as such we need to be more vigilant about campus security both during the school day and at weekends.  We would like to remind all parents that school identification badges must be worn, even on the weekends when attending school activities.  If not, you will be asked for some form of identity and asked to wear a visitor’s badge.

If you are sending a nanny or driver, please ensure they have the school identity lanyard or some form of identity card. We thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students and school site safe and secure.

Managing our Traffic Together

Drivers Code of Conduct

For more information about how we can work together to improve traffic around our campuses, please access this post.

We have noticed a number of parents, nannies and drivers using the road instead of the bridge to cross between the Junior Campus and the Secondary Campus.  Please can we urge all of our community to use the bridge particularly at drop off and pick up times. It keeps you safe and also allows the traffic to flow more easily at these busy times.

Safeguarding at school – it’s everyone’s responsibility

It is every parent’s wish to capture memorable moments on camera of their child at school either performing in an assembly, on their birthday or simply playing with their friends on the playground before the start of the school day.  Any photos that are taken by parents on personal devices must be kept private.  They must not be shared publicly on social media or between non-family members such as other parents in the school.  By following these guidelines, we ensure our BIS safeguarding policy is adhered to and that our children are kept safe.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Child Protection

If, during your visit to school, you have any reason to be concerned about the safety of a young person, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Person.

Please note that CCTV cameras are in operation at all times across the campus.

You will have seen the email earlier in the week from Mr Anthony Rowlands regarding our awarding of Outstanding in every category at our recent BSO inspection.  I would like to thank all the teachers, teaching assistants and support staff who earned the grading and continue to work so hard for our students.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Ms Deirdre Grimshaw, Headteacher of Junior Campus
